Human Scratching Post?!?!?

Hey all! I believe I have just become my cat's scratching post.  She
normally goes to her post every time she follows me into the kitchen and
does some pawing at it while looking up at me and making a little vocal
noise.  She then goes and paws the fridge to request  her favorite turkey
cold cuts...but that's beside the point for this story :)  While sitting at
my desk 10 minutes ago she came up to me to get my attention in her usual
way, pawing at me and licking my arm.  I gave her a pat on the head and she
took off for a snack in the kitchen.  She came back a moment later and
started scratching at my pockets on my pants!  Same hunkered down position
and big eyes looking up at me while scratching her paws on my back pocket.
Is it safe to say she loves me again after my 3 week Europe trip? :)  She
has NEVER done that before.  Anyone else get used as a scratching post?

Beth:

I don't think she's using you as a scratching post as much as she is
"mushing" on you. Kits do this when they're nursing, and I believe it
signifies that you're the momcat.

I love it when my kits mush on me. It means they feel safe and secure
with me.

I dunno about that.  She has done the mushing but usually when I'm lying
down somewhere and she comes and sits on me and does that pushing thing.
She was letting the ends of her paws catch my pocket like she does on the
scratching post.  It was weird.  Unlike anything she's ever done.  Maybe she
was, but it looked just like the scratching post behavior and sounded like
it too since her paw was catching on my pocket for several seconds.
Whatever it was, it sure was cute! :)

I have a cat the 'nurses' on me, and I have a (different) cat that scratches
on both me and my husband. It's one of her favorite things. Cat's use
scratching posts to mark territory as well as stretch out their muscles.
When Elorah does it to us, she usually goes into a good deep stretch and
then gives a head-butt for scritches. I'm sure she's just making sure that
she's staked a claim. :o)

I would say she loves you or she most likely would not pester you.

As for lunch meat it sounds like mine.  Every morning he (Sam) want his slice of turkey
lunch meat and it has to be turkey.  I tryed ham once when I ran out of turkey and he just
set there looking at me like "What is this?!?!" and would not eat it.  I had to make a
trip to get his turkey lunch meat as soon as the deli opened.

The other ones (Rascal and Kitty) likes their 1/2 jar of baby food as long as it is
chicken with chicken gravy or turkey with turkey gravy and occassionaly they will eat beef
with beef gravy.  The fourth (Margie) just eats her cat food.  Whatever treats I try with
her she will not eat it.  When she was a small kitten she liked cheese and every time she
heard the paper being taken off would come running for a piece.  Now at 4 years she still
comes running but does not eat the cheese.  I think now it is just a game to her.

Before anyone tells me the baby food is no good or cheese will bind them up I checked with
vet and she said the meat based baby food was just fine for them and they been eating it
as long as I have had them.  Same with cheese and milk.  All four of mine eat cheese and
drink milk and have since wee ones with no adverse effects.
