I have got 2 cats, Billy and Bonnie, they are 2 years old, I have just
rescued 2 kittens (9weeks old) I have had them for a week now, but billy
and bonnie are terrified of them, I have to keep the kittens in the
living
room while billy and bonnie have their meals (all cats have seperate
feeding bowls), as soon as they have eaten they scoot past the living
room
door and either go to a bedroom or go out depending on morning or night.
When billy or bonnie see the kittens they run like mad and if they cant
get out they hiss and growl, the kittens just stand there and sometimes
try to walk closer to them which only creates more hissing. The kittens
have fully settled in, you would think they have lived in the house for
years. I could understand if the kittens were frightened but it is the
opposite!!  I am not neglecting billy or bonnie they still get cuddles
and
affection so they dont feel left out!! Since the kittens have arrived
neither billy nor bonnie will go into the living room anymore. Has anyone
else been through this, tell me your experience and does it get better?

they aren't terrified, most adult cats don't like kittens ("what? I'm
not your mommy you little freak, and get *away* from my tail"); the
kittens will probably have to grow up a little to be accepted.  In the
meantime they have each other to play with.  The most the older cats
will do will be a (no claws) swat if the young'uns don't heed the hisses
and growls; <shrug> put up with it and keep us posted.

Yes, don't worry!

Cinderella had three kittens in April. I was warned that our neutered tom
might harm them, so I was always near when he came on the scene. But it was
the opposite. He was terrified, hid under the bed, hissed etc. This went on
for 3 months. I made sure that he got his peace when eating and kept them
apart as much as possible. Then we gave two kittens away. He still didn't
like the last one. Then our mother cat sadly died. (The fox caught her while
she was catching a mouse for her kitten.*) I took in the neighbour's last
kitten. Both of them are now 4 months old. One day I didn't pay attention:
Micky came in, came across the kittens - and nothing happened. Then I
started to lock them inside the house for about a quarter of an hour at the
time, and now they rub noses, play with each other inside and outside. But I
still make sure that Micky can eat in peace.
I think he was afraid of the little kittens with their uncontrolled
behaviour. Now that they are a bit more sensible it all goes well.

* This incident has changed my whole outlook on having cats. If I can't let
them outside, I don't want any anymore. I only took in the neighbour's young
cat because our kitten was so lonely and because Tiffy is the very cat I
always wanted: long haired and a really affectionate cat. But I still miss
Cindy, I can't even mourn properly. And: There's a fox trap in the garden
since a few days in agreement with the hunter. But all I've caught so far
are tons of ghastly slugs (it's very wet at the moment) and a ginger cat
which I let go again unharmed of course. If you like - keep your fingers
crossed in memory of Cindy and the two dwarf rabbits I lost as well, and the
four my other neighbour lost. I must take revenge!
