Hi,
Me and my partner have a bit of a disagreement of cat food. My partner
seems sure she wants the cats on wet food as she says that the dry
food is damaging to the cats kidneys. I, on the other hand, would
prefer dry food as I am sure it has more goodness in then dry food.
Can anyone here advise me which type of food would be best?
or would a wet/dry combination be the best thing?
Many thanks,

Yes: dry/wet. Dry all day round, wet 1-2 times a day.
Do a google search or a search in this NG. There are tons of good
informations on the topic.

It is good for your cat to eat a variety of foods, and not get addicted
to just one taste. However, the 'combination' does not have to be
wet/dry. Different kinds of canned would serve the same purpose.
Some people like to leave dry food all day. Others believe that rather
than free feeding, it is better for the cat, as it is for you and me,
to have proper meals at fixed times 2-3 times a day. I am in the latter
camp, but take your pick.

Thanks for this, and all other replies on this matter, it is of great
assistance.

there is no concrete answer out there. ask 100 people, get 100 answers.
The general consensus is that if your kitty is in good health, then as long
as it is a good quality food then it really doesn't matter.

I did a lot of research on 'canned vs dry' recently myself. Your
partner is right, you are seriously mistaken. Canned is better although
dry is sometimes more convenient.
I mostly feed canned, but would use dry if we are going to be absent
for a long time and must leave food out in advance. (Here "long time"
means no more than a day or so, more than that I'd make some other
arrangement.)
I would not keep her on dry food for any extended period however. Treat
it like you would potato chips for your kids.

Mine get both. Dry food is available to them 24/7. They eat get about 3.5
ounces in the morning and again at night. They are very healthy.
