I think Candy is a short haired kitten. Should I start giving her a
hairball prevension remedy like vaseline and if so when should I start
this?

Cats should not be given petroleum derivatives - they are
indigestible.

I really wouldn't do anything like that to a kitten... wouldn't even do
that to a fullgrown cat unless she's upchucking hairballs all the time.
Where did you get the idea that Vaseline is a hairball prevention remedy ?

I done some google searches and there were a few people saying that
vaseline works. If this is not the case I won't give it.

No, give nothing - just good quality food.
Hairball stuff may be given when there's a problem like with older cats.
But a kitten doesn't need it.
