How do I get my old cat to accept the new kitten?

About a week ago, we acquired an 8 week old kitten. Introducing the kitten
to my 6 year old cat has been kind of scary. He hisses at her (kitten),
but doesn't growl. Then he just wants to go back outside. We've been
keeping the kitten in a dog kennel when the older cat is in, but I'd like
to start letting her out at the same time the other cat is inside. We had
another kitten a couple years ago, and they absolutely loved each othe,
but my husband and his father keep saying that he will kill her. I don't
see it, but could he? How do I help to get him to accept her?

We got 3 kittens in April and our neutered tom could not stand them at all.
I let things go their own way - and now they all play with each other and
eat out of the same bowl. Just keep an eye on them.

Time.  IME the other cat won't hurt her; some males simply do not like
little kittens (too annoying perhaps)

I've thought that the kittens are so fearless that it is
unnerving to adult cats. Large cats sometimes kill
the litter of other males but I'm pretty sure it doesn't
happen with domestic cats. We've had so many cats
that don't get along at first and then end up fiends.

You might try putting them in ajoining cages or plastic
boxes with as much contact as possible without them
being able to actually bother each other. They might
get used to each other. A lot of time they just work
things out in some mysterious way having to do with
pecking order or something like that.

Good luck : -)
