I took Candy (7 weeks+)to the vets today for her first checkup and
found that she had conjunctivitus (?) which was causing her eyes to
weep a sort of black goo and they gave me oitment to be applied twice a
day. They also gave me an oral medicine for worms as they said she felt
a bit pot bellied which she has to take 5ml twice per day for a couple
of days. I also explained that I found fleas yesterday and gave her an
oral "4fleas" tablet myself so they gave her a "Frontline" spray. When
I got her home I gave her another bath in flea shampoo to get rid of
any remaining flea droppings left over from these 2 flea treatments
she's had. In hindsight maybe I should not have bathed her straight
away, do you think I have washed out the "Frontline"? I am just
desperate to get rid of this horrible flea problem so that I can lift
and handle her again. She was in quarantine all day yesterday whilst
the oral tablet was working and I was flea spraying the whole house.
She's been through so much over the last couple of days since I got
her, what with the rehoming, bathing and vets today. I hope I have not
frightened her too much. Still no luck on the second kitten fron but
I'm still looking!!

Please take it easy with your very young kitten - be gentle with her, give
her a bit of peace and don't lock her away from people. For such a young
kitten this *is* traumatic. Good that you took her to the vet and got her
wormed as well. The Frontline and all the rest should be OK. But don't
overdo it with bathing. Cats don't like that.

Re: washing frontline off. I use revolution and the instructions say
that it is waterproof after 15 mins so I would imagine frontline is
similar.

My cat needed eye ointment as a little baby (14 weeks) as well. My vet
said that she insisted that all parents give their pet a treat after
every dose. I did this and found that it did make it easier to treat
him. Although he never *liked* getting the ointment he only offered
token resistance even after a week of getting it 4 times a day.

All the best with Candy.

Cheers
