My son wrote me today asking my help about his cat Cinder, a short hair,
all black cat about two years old. He said that Cinder has developed a
rather bad case of dandruff.  In addition, the hair on his back/spine
area, towards his butt, has begun to clump up, like big hair balls.
Here is the question...he had heard that black cats are prone to a skin
condition, for which they need a shot to alleviate. He's tried calling
his Vet but the Vet hasn't gotten back to him yet. I thought I'd check
into it myself for him. Thanks for any info.

The clumping part sounds a lot like stud tail. It's more common in unneutered
males, but I've since learned that neutered cats and even females can get it.
