one of our cats had kittens about a month ago.  they are beginning to
be very playful, so we thought we could move them off the bed where she
had made her nest.  she's not being very receptive to the idea.  i
can't sleep on the couch anymore.  does anyone have any suggestions on
how to get her to keep the kittens in the new place.  thanks for your
help.

Move the blanket too, and don't move them all too far - but on the ground
where they can't fall from high.

at 4 weeks they're not gonna be traumatized by you moving them, but *do*
pick a suitable place.

From experience if you put your favorite shirt in a box (or on any
horizontal surface) that's where the cat will pick for her nest.

Cat nest: 2'x 1.5'x 4" open-top cardboard box with something draped over
the whole thing so kittens don't get caught in any cracks or
accidentally covered up.  Put your scent on whatever you line the box with.

Best place is in a corner under an endtable or something with between
1-2 feet clearance to the ground.  Not a traffic area and the kittens
aren't display items for your friends to ooh and aah over (especially if
she's a new mommy)

pat

past cat nests:

outside in the garden (*in* the garden)
bottom shelf of entertainment centre
upholstered living room chair
inside kids' play tent
under dresser
inside a box of old clothing

this post just made my day..

Mom will move the nest when it isn't suitable.  You can move them for the
night, but if she's stubborn, she'll move them back.  At four weeks its not
a big deal to keep moving them.  I agree with the other post, try to create
a new nest and hopefully it will be better to her.
