please help me. I have a litter of 7 kittens ,very healthy, 5 1/2 weeks old
. Their weights were good and now I seem to have two of the kittens with
diarea and off their food . I moved just the two of them alone with the
mother but one has lost it's appetite, and I have even seen it vomiting. I
have been feeding kitten formula with a syringe but it is a fight and it
doesn't seem to be helping the kitten's condition. On our dairy farm we
know to feed a baby calf only warm water when it has diarrhea and it is a
fight, but they pull through. But being barn cats I can't seem to get my
dad to get them to a vet, they are not even wanted around here, city people
keep droping them off I guess. Is there anything I can try, because I do
like them, they make me laugh watching them play. (maybe buckleys for the
diarrea?) The mother has kind of loose stools too.

I'm really sorry about your kittens. If they were eating solid food, I
would suggest ground beef cooked in broth, mixed with cooked rice. That
stopped the diahrea for a kitten I had that was 6-7 weeks old. An old-
fashioned vet told me to do that.
Otherwise, I wouldn't know what else to do but take them to a vet.

Maybe try a different type of kitten food. Some cats are allergic to certain
foods. All you can do really is make sure you keep feeding them. They will
go back to the mother once they are feeling good. Make sure they are warm.
Also make sure the mother is eating well and not getting into anything
around the farm that could be hurting the kittens. Make sure there are no
chemicals, sprays or anything near them that could potentially make them
sick.

sounds like worms to me. Not that it couldn't be something else, but
TYPICALLY it is a parasitic infection.. I recommend yogurt and canned
pumpkin to help with the diarrhea, but they very much need to have their
stool looked at and to get the appropriate deworming meds.
Good luck!

At 5 1/2 weeks, kittens should have been weaned off kitten formula and onto
canned kitten food- which should help reduce or eliminate diarrhea and
restore fluid losses. However, the first order of business is getting your
kittens checked for worms and other intestinal parasites- which can be fatal
for kittens if left untreated.
Its *very* important that you keep the kittens *well* hydrated. Diarrhea
can cause critical dehydration in kittens *very* rapidly. I strongly
suggest you take these kitten to a vet as soon as possible- they probably
need fluid and electrolyte replacement therapy.

Hi,
Thanks for all your help. We are still keeping them in close quarters (just
the 2) with their mother so they can nurse as much as they want. I am also
feeding them water mixed with soaked kitten food in a dropper. We have to
force them to take it, they refuse to eat on their own yet, except to nurse.
The healthy kittens have been eating canned/dry kitten food for over a week
and they are doing really well. 6 weeks old today! the 2 sick ones are
improving although they still have the scoots, i will see if the vet will
worm them tomorrow, would have today but its a holiday. Do you think they
need to see the vet or will they just give me some, i can tell the vet their
weights and that maybe my dad would go for, he hates spending money on barn
cats that we didn't even ask for. Guess i'll find out tomorrow...
Again, thanks for the assistance.

Please keep us posted as they progress. It does sound as though things are
going much better.
