Can anyone tell me, why my master Wilson, will only drink
his water out of an old blue plastic beaker, and this while
sitting in the bathtub. There are bowls placed in strategic
places for him, kitchen, lounge, veranda, and my bedroom
but he never drinks from them, he'd rather jump in the bath
and sit there while I fill up the widemouthed beakerright to the top so he
can get a good drink before It narrows too much for his head, generally
he can drink about a quarter.cor love a duck! why do we love these

I don't think that's particularly unusual! One of my cats will only drink
out of the bathroom tap ~ and only then if it's not running too fast!!
My mother's cat will only drink out of a pint glass! No matter how many
times she tried to change it (for fear of it being knocked over & broken)
the cat was having none of it!! She's finally found an identical plastic
pint glass that the cat will tolerate!
Well, human's have their favourite cups too!!

I can only add to the mystery -- cannot solve it.
My two would only drink from large summer tumblers - the insulated kind - and
the water had to be at the very tip top.
I bought one of those big ceramic bowls -- they didn't like it. Then I got
one of those fountain bowls with continuous running water. They didn't like
it because it splashed on them too much when they drank.
So, back to the tumblers I went, putting one on my desk, on the bed headboard
and a small table. I would water the plants and fill the cat glasses.
Who controlled who in the house?

I bought one of the Drinkwell fountains last summer - the cats wouldn't come
near it, they were so afraid of it! So I emptied it, unplugged it and left
it on the floor in one of the main rooms of the house, so that they would
have to walk past it to get anywhere in the house. Every day I scooted it
nearer and nearer their existing water dish, until it was right next to it,
and they didn't seem to mind it. I filled it with water every time I filled
their regular dish for a few days, but then I let their regular dish run out
of water, and they were drinking from the still-unplugged fountain. Then I
turned it on, and they shied away from it at first, but then I caught Lizzie
drinking from the stream! Now we have 3 of these things, in different rooms
of the house, Lizzie prefers drinking from the stream, Smokey & Weeble will
drink out of either the stream or the bowl, but Tennessee will only drink
out of the bowl. When we had Weeble neutered, we had him locked in our
bedroom for the first night with just a bowl of water (food & litter box
too) - he wouldn't touch it! When we let him out into the rest of the
house, he went straight for one of the fountains and drank for about 5
minutes!

LOL. So typical for a cat I must say. I dunno how but mine discovered i
occasionally leave the tap dripping in the bathtab and that it tastesa so
much "better" then their regualar water dish.So for a while whenever I go to
the loo, a cat jumps into a bathtab, sits and watches the tap then me then
tap then me. Eventually I figured this out and since then I keep getting
much higher water bills becuase I have to keep the tap dripping at all times
:) . I have to also make this clear to my visitors, that this is OK and to
leave the tap alone instead of them "kindly" closing it for me :)
Tiara however prefers drinking from tall glasses(beer/wine glasses etc). We
now own none of them :) She broke them all. She drinks the water from it,
then sees something behind it and thinks it;s in the water, then starts
swinging her paw around (but not in) the glass to catch it, untill
eventually she pushes the glass onto the floor. Then just stands there
looking at me saying : "pick that broken glass up, I wouldn;t want to hurt
my paw."
As for why do we love them, well becayse theya re such amazing, clever,
funny, cuddly and lovebale little creatures and they make us smile. I don;t
think any human made me ever smile as much as my cats did.
