I took my diabetic cat into the vet a few days ago for his glucose
check. My vet told me that the company Lily, who makes Humulin U, will
not be producing it at the end of the year.

Has anyone else heard this from their vet. Anyone told of any
alternatives. My vet could not tell me what alternative he would
recommend. He did say it probably would be more expensive though.

My kitty is on Humulin L and same story here, except our pharmacy told us,
and was completely out.  Luckily we found another bottle at another store.
Im going to see my vet tomorrow.  Hopefully he doesn't recommend the stuff
that they sell, cause it is expensive!

Alternates in USA are:

BCP PZI insulin.  Need Rx from vet but buy directly from manufacturer.  Cost
about $70 including shipping for 10 ml of U100 strength

PZI Vet.  can get from vet or internet (e.g. 1-800 PETMEDS) for $90-130 for
10 ml of U40 strength.  Need Rx

The two above are for animals.  You can also use Lantus which is made for
humans.  cost is about $75 for 10 ml of U100 strength.
