Hi I'm new to the group but thought I share with you a little about my
cat. He is so picky, I got him a new cat food and now he won't eat his
old food, he tore open the new bag on his own. so does anyone know how
to get him to eat theold food? I hate to get rid of it, and hes the only
cat I have.

I find that cats like the smell of *fresh* food. So try and seal the food
well.
It's easy to get cat eat the old food: Put it in a bowl and sprinkle some of
the fresh stuff over it or mix it in.
That's how I get rid of the stuff I bought but that isn't appreciated that
much.

You could try to trick him by mixing a little at a time into the new food.
Or just donate the old bag to the Humane Society or to someone who feeds
ferals.

An update on my 19 year old cat.  He is now on his way
to Rainbow bridge.

The vet examined the cat, even though he had diarrehea
he had an area of "constipation" that was still present.
The only real option was to sedate the cat and
attempt to drain the constipation.

We decided to put the cat to sleep, it turned out
to be a wise decision because the cat never would
have survived the sedation.   The sedation the
vet gave him was enough to end it.

Also the cat weighed 5 pounds now, he was 15 pounds
sevral years ago.

a 10lb loss in weight is something. My cats are on the small side yet
even the smallest of them is 7#

I am so sorry. He was a lucky cat to have had 19 years with someone who cared
so much about him.

My condolences. That is a long time to have a pet around.
As I mentioned before I had a similar experience and our home is just so
empty without our cat that we have decided to get two kittens. We are
going to see them this weekend to choose.
At first I personally didn't want to get another cat because Biggs was a
hard act to follow and I loved him so much.
Again my deepest sympathy.
