Bumps all over my cat

One of our cats has developed a significant number of bumps on his back and
around his head. He has a lot of fur so you can't see them but when you
pet/groom him you really notice them.

We've taken him to the Vet and he recommended seeing a specialist which
we're going to do next week. He seems very sensitive to the bumps but will
still let us brush and pet him, however, doing so causes a lot of "jerking"
movements so I know they must irritate/hurt him.

While we're going next week to a specialist, I just wanted to ask if anyone
has run into anything similar and could provide some more information.
We're really getting concerned.

Sincerely,
Will

My Tom suffers a lot from bite wounds, being just the right age and weight
he doesn't seem to be coming off the worse. Mostly on his ears, forehead or
neck, he has been known to suffer these wounds on his back. It's never been
a problem except when one or two have become infected.

These are small wounds and not unlike his nipples on his tummy, small enough
to feel like you're rubbing a flexible point with your finger.

If your cats lumps feel any larger than what you might expect from a tooth
penetration, and last longer than a couple of weeks, then seek a vet. If
that vet then refers you to a specialist I would ask that vet what they
think is the problem, before seeking the expensive advice of a specialist.

Babba.

Thanks! The bumps do feel somewhat like nipples on the belly but they
generally are "scabby". What's interesting is they are only on the top part
of my cat, and not the bottom. They are all over the top of his neck, top
of his back and a lot by his tail. I'm almost wondering if he's not
crawling under something. We have 4 other cats and none of them have
anything similar so I'm not too sure how he'd be the only one to get them.

Our vet is clueless on it. We've heard it could be ringworms but the vet
disagrees. Unfortunately we'll have to go to the specialist/dermatologist
without a professional opinion from our vet.

Thanks for your feedback.

Sincerely,
Will

Sometimes a cat or dog for that matter will have an allergic reaction to
flea bites. You may think he doesn't have fleas because sometimes the little
guys jump on bite then jump off. Flea collars often keep the fleas from
staying but that doesn't mean they will not taste you cat.

Some cats are like my wife and will get a really big bump from the bite!
This might be what's going on. Mosquito can also be a big problem. These
flying critters just don't bite people you know! Also flea collars don't
always work with mosquitoes. Do you have a problem with mosquitoes. There
are also a number of critters that can live in carpeting. Some of these
critters bite and can cause skin irritations. There are many different types
of mites and some could cause problems.

Food allergies cause different types of welts! Usually these welts are not
as pointed but more rounded. They are also very close together where bites
are more apart from one another. Shave the cat so you can get a really good
look at the skin. What's the color of the welts, what's the spacing of the
welts. What are the welt surfaces like!
Are they pussy? Can you pop them? Do they have any kind of head on them? You
might take a few pictures and put them on the net!

Hope I helped!
