Forget buying those expensive cat toys, give your cats some cotton
balls.  My cats love playing with them.  My big fat cat also loves to
play with the shadows on the wall, and laser pointers.  Q-tips are
also a hit at my house.
Does anybody have anything as odd as cotton balls????

I've dropped q-tips before and my cats take off with them. I always take
them away and put them in the trash (not the cats). Mine like to eat the
cotton so I don't use these as toys.

Ditto here on the Q-tips.  I will let them play with them as long as I
am around to keep an eye on them or / and until the ends start coming
off then I remove them or give them a new one.  Needless to say I go
through a lot of Q-tips but I get a large bag for $1 at the local
dollar store.

My cats favorite toys are empty boxes.   The larger the cat, the
smaller the box they try to get into.

Really? Cotton balls? I would be worried they would choke on that and tear
it apart...your cats don't do that? I've never tried the q-tips,
either....now the laser light they LOVE!! They jump up onto the sofa and
walls...wherever I point it they attack it LOL! I also have a fishing pole
with a fake mouse w/catnip that I kinda like to swing back and forth and
they love to jump at that! I tend to let them playing with the fishing pole
before I go to bed to let them burn some energy and it has really worked!

My guys go crazy over the little plastic rings that come off a milk jug
when you open it. We have hundreds of them in a bag, and God only knows
how many under furniture, behind the fridge, etc. And yes, the empty
cardboard box!

You might want to check Pet Smart if you have one for rings similar to
the milk jug rings only they are wavy which makes them about 1/2 high.
The thicknessof the ring is the same as milk jug ring but the waves
make it about 1/2 overall.  My furbabies love them as much as the milk
jug rings but the do not go under EVERYTHING (Somethings yes).

I've had a couple of cats who liked playing with plastic wire ties. One
used to hold it with one paw and bat around the other end with the
little bit on the end. It was also carried around a lot like a prey item.

Yup...foil balls!! Anytime my cat hears tin foil...she goes crazy! She loves
throwing them in the air and chasing them around the room. I've bought toys
for her...but no...she prefers the best kind of toys...free ones!! Works for
me. :)
My only concern with cotton balls is that my cat would likely end up choking
on them. She loves biting her toys too.

Do they write notes, or just gnaw on them. And is it the Dixon
Ticonderoga, the best no. 2 pencil in the entire world?

pony tail holders are a definite favorite with most of my cats.  pens are
another, until they send them off the desk to the floor where the dog can
eat them.  glitter balls are great and inexpensive.  And I found a "cat
fishing rod" in Petco - its a miniature fishing rod w/a mouse tied on at the
end, you can "cast" out the mouse and reel him back in.  Laser pointers -
great invention, hours of fascination.

This gives me a good idea: I'll attach a furry mouse (cat doesn't like them
because they don't move) to an automatic meter band, that should do the
trick :-)

well, the other day, i *finally* got my christmas presents from my parents.
skittles played in the paper until she passed out.  then she woke up and
played in the bags.  but as far as real cat-toys, she LOVES the one she
has....  it's a stick with a long elastic string and on the end of the
string is a little bell and sparkly tassles.
does anyone remember "cat dancers"??  we had one for our cat oh......15
years ago.

skittles also likes to hide my earrings.  i find her batting them around the
floor ALL the time.

One of my kitties LOVES twisty ties that come with a loaf of bread. If he
sees me hold one he will start to beg me for it. Besides the laser pointer,
the tie is his favorite toy.

Another cat of mine loves to roll the toilet paper roll until it becomes
empty. He thinks its funny. He also can't resist a cardboard box. He can be
occupied with it for days and then he likes to sleep in them. If I get a
package, he thinks that the box is for him and it is very hard to open a
package when you have a cat jumping around you with joy!

I have a cat that goes crazy over olive wood. She also love runing after gifts warps
bow knots. She regularly cary her blue tedy bear around, but supremly dislike us
seeing her doing it... Ocasionaly, she will play with a champage cork.
Many years ago, i had a cat that just LOVED decorating herself with cristmas tree
brilliants, and never even tryed to eat them. She roamed under the tree her tail
raised as high as possible to catch them, then walked around the house with pride...

Is olive wood what you call olive pit where you are?  I'll have to
remember that if so...
