I am looking for a window perch for my cat. I've seen several in the stores
but I'm wondering if anyone can highlight good or bad points or good models
to look at. My windows are nothing unique, some standard double hungs. I
would like to get a window perch that preferrably does not require to drive
screws into any of the window and will stay put as the cat uses it whether
the window is open or closed. Any suggestions?

I ordered this one http://tinyurl.com/y06x from Petco online. I had
one of the same perches and wanted a second and this price was better
than in the store and they had free shipping at the time. The perch
that came in was a "fancier" design but it isn't as sturdy as what is
pictured. I should have sent it back but the seat part has more foam
and is thicker and seemed more comfortable. As a result, it couldn't
fit as nicely on my 2" window sills without some support from below.
I had to attach a piece of wood to the wall where the supports rest
against it so that it didn't slope so far downward, but in the end it
worked out fine.

A table or bookshelf will do. There are plastic snap-together shelves
that are easy to adjust in height by simply sawing the uprights off to
make legs. A folded towel on the top shelf makes an easily washed
pad. Nothing is attached to the wall and a bit of weight (a row of
books perhaps) on the lower shelf helps stabilize the structure.
Personally I prefer a shelf mounted on brackets just below the window
sill - my cats love them
(<http://www.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/031106/three_on_shelf.1.jpg>).

Ah, a chance to show off my cat and $40 cat bed. Go

and click on cat1.
I wrote about this about 5 months ago. He loved the bed last summer,
then suddenly boycotted it, wouldn't go near it. After spending $40 I
was irked. Finally he's forgotten whatever turned him off about it.
