My friends cat had kittens last years and after 3 months it would'nt
have anything todo with the kittens.  It took off and has'nt been seen
since.  Now one of its kittens has kittens, will the same happen?  Is
this normal behaviour for cats to reject their offspring after a few
months old?

At 3 months old kittens are way too old to still be nursing anyway. 10-12
weeks is the usual age they are weaned from their mother.

getting the cats spayed would prevent this.  There are MANY low cost spay
neuter groups out there to help if cost is the issue.

Yes.. it is normal behavior.
