You don't need to change the actual box that often, but you need to change
the litter inside it daily, or more than once a day if it's particularly
stinky - my cat (I'm sure this is not unusual) doesn't use it until it's
clean, so I clean it, he goes, then I clean it again, but only change the
litter once a day.

You actually change the litter once a day?

You mean scoop, don't you?

ONCE A DAY ?!?!?!?!  You own a company that makes kitty litter or what ?!?!?!?!

I got my first kitten in September, so I'm not an expert.  If I setup two
litter boxes, I can scoop every other day.  I wash each box once every 4
weeks.  I alternate, so every 2 weeks, I wash one.

I sift through mine every 3 days and change out the little completely about
once every 4-5 weeks. At that time I usually wash the inside of the box as
well.

Those electronic boxes are just too expensive for me. The box I _really_
like is the one with the plastic insert that has the grating on the bottom
of it. You lift it up while lightly shaking it and the good litter falls
through while the bad, clumped little stays inside the liner. I then just
put a plastic bag around the liner and dump the old litter into the bag.

Thank You all for you post Hopefully in the future i will have more question
to ask about kittens and cats

I like the litter boxes that are covered and just have a kitty "hole" or
door they pass through. They seem to keep smells out of the house better
because they have a filter on the top of them that takes out the amonia.

I would buy one if I knew it worked well and the cat would like it and
I didn't have to buy custom liners or anything like that on a regular
basis and it doesn't break within a year.

To me, it's not too expensive, but it's too much of a gamble.  The
potential payoff over 5 years would be well worth it in my opinion.

I hadn't seen those - I'll have to look for them
