Temper Tantrum?

So if you read my other post from today, you know I just got back from 3
weeks in Italy.  While I was gone, a friend of mine did the necessary cat
sitting.  Butterscotch knows this friend and she's cat sat when I've been
gone for a weekend on several occasions. She stayed most every night and
said that while Butterscotch seemed confused after the first few days, which
is the most she's ever spent with her, and just sat there looking at her
(which is sorta weird for her to do) for a couple days, she was otherwise
fine.  Butter is usually very cuddly with people she knows and apparently
after she adjusted and stopped staring at my friend, she became her normally
cuddly self. which usually just involves sitting beside you.  Now, when I
got back last night my cat was just all over me.  I came in after being up
for almost 22 hours straight and pretty much crashed on the couch for a bit
and she was purring and meowing and pawing at me and I couldn't pet  her
enough!  But then this morning she was sleeping by me, as usual, and was
pawing at my nose to wake me, which she hasn't done since she was a kitten.
So I got up and she started her strange tantrum that has now been going on
all day.  I got up and she hopped up on her hind legs to paw at my leg and I
patted her on the head, turned to walk away and she bit my leg! Now, she's
been known to get too rough when playing and bite at me but she actually
left a bruise and puncture marks on my leg!  Then she was fine and a few
hours later she flopped over on her back and put her little paws on her face
like she always does when she wants to be played with.  So I was rubbing her
belly and her head and she was licking my hand and next thing I know...two
more puncture marks.  She's been away from me for no more than 4 days before
this and she's always overly attentive when I get back but she's never bit
me that hard! Previously I have posted about the biting thing when she got
too worked up playing and someone suggested hissing/meowing like I was in
pain and that stopped that habit.  But even then she's never actually left
puncture marks or drawn blood.  Please tell me I haven't scarred her for
life and that this spastic behavior is temporary :(

Me thinks the cat is upset you left it alone for the time you were in
Italy.

The cat wil be it's old self in a few days.

That'll teach you to leave her for 3 weeks! :-)  I'm sure it's just
temporary.  She needs to feel secure again that you're not going to leave
her.  I would imagine that 3 weeks is an eternity for a furbaby.

Tell me about it! I felt so bad about it and couldn't wait to get home once
I got on the flight back.  But, 3 weeks for a 6 credit course in Italy was
just too much to pass up :) I'll keep you posted :)

Yes, I can understand you're needing to go.  What are you studying?  I
think your kitty is just trying to maintain your attention, and I'm sure it
will pass. Please do keep us posted.

Well, I am a teacher and my certificate is for grades 1-8 so technically
there are a lot of areas I can teach in.  I've spent the last 3 years doing
mainly 7th grade social studies, which in Ohio is ancient civilizations.  I
needed 6 credit hours to renew my certificate when it expires in June of
next year and wanted to get it done this summer.  The class was about
ancient Rome mainly but also discussed its colonies and interactions with
Greeks and Etruscans.  So for three weeks went to pretty much any site that
had to do with the ancient world :)  We spent 2 weeks in Rome and one week
in a villa outside of Naples.  It was pretty awesome...and tiring.  I've
never walked uphill so much in my life!

As for my kitty, she has progressed to sitting on top of my lap wherever I'm
sitting or my chest if I'm lying down.  She nipped at me a couple times but
not nearly as bad.  She usually is cuddly, but she hasn't been this cuddly
since she was a kitten...about a year ago. I only got one more set of
puncture marks since my original post :)  So that's gotta be a good sign!
Thanks :)

And of course you teach them about ancient Eygpt where they worshipped
cats?

My cats hate it when I leave for a few hours, much less for a few
days.

That had to be a fascinating and gratifying trip, and beautiful
surroundings as well!  What a wonderful way to update your credentials.

BTW, what part of Ohio are you in?  I spent most of my life in NE Ohio,
around the Cleveland area.  We moved from North Ridgeville to Arizona 5
years ago.

She will be fine, Beth.

Well, at least she definitely recognised you again, btw they are called love
bites, just wear padded socks and stroke her carefully ...

Thanks for the tip! And you will all be happy to know that she has stopped
the "love bites" and has now just resorted to other kitten behavior, such as
climbing in my lap and insisting I hold her like an infant :)  I think
she'll back to her normal "I am royalty" attitude shortly :)
