Micky (8 months old) just *loves* the laser pointer. When he sees me picking
it up he immediately starts searching the floor for the dot. Then he likes
his ping pong balls, about ten of them have disappeared behind and under
furniture so far, spring cleaning will be interesting... Then he likes his
nightly toilet roll and an occasional chewing of my slippers. Guess it's his
way of dental care :-)

The Turbo Scratcher for sure. They used to like the laser pointer, but for some
reason don't go after it like they used to.

My cat Nico loves the ear plugs I wear to bed. They are light
and perfect for tossing up in the air and pretending they are
small prey. The only problem is she tends to eat them, so I can't
have them lying around and only take them out for play.

I have spent countless dollars buying her toys from the pet store...but do
you what she always plays with??
Little rolled up balls of foil. Nothing keeps her more entertained. She'll
pick them up in her mouth, fling them in the air and I've even seen her do
back flip just to try and catch it. That's definitely her favorite!

Blues....Mr Mouse (a furry snake like cat toy) and "I love Cats" hanging
pillow on an elastic (though I DONT have it hanging since she tended
to get her paws caught up in it)
Rhythm...she doesnt seem interested in toys...mostly she likes to
scratch her cardboard boxe and likes tussling with the kitten (harmony)
Harmony...she has a small piece of fur from one of Blues old and chewed
up Mr mouses...she LOVES that...and of course she love getting the
older two involved in racing and chasing and tumbling....Blues will race
with her but NOT tumble...Rhythm will tumble but NOT race...
It works :-)

Holly loves the laser pointer, but I have found that she gets bored with it
after a few days. So I put it away for awhile, and then she comes running
for it again. When she's "in the mood" for it, she will leap onto my lap if
I even touch the drawer where I store it (in the chest beside my favorite
chair). Duffy's favorite toy is a circular toy with a corrugated-cardboard
scratching area in the center and a track around the outside with a ball in
it. He is actually ambidextrous with the ball and will bat it one direction,
then change paws and hit it in the opposite direction. He even leaps back
and forth over the whole thing, quickly turns, and gives the ball a swat as
it approaches.
I don't know who gets more pleasure out of all this -- Holly and Duffy as
they play or myself as I watch.

Tigger has no interest in anything until you put catnip in it, then things
get interesting! He has one mouse that I try to keep filled for him, he is
so funny with it. He rolls all on top of it, then flips it up in the air,
does the bunny kicks to it, rolls around the house (litterally rolls around
the house), then lays on his back (with toy on his tummy) and goes to sleep.
The really cute part is it matches his tummy! He is a grey and black tabby,
too cute!

Here's a trick, in case you haven't tried it. Put your catnip in a quart jar,
and keep the toys in the jar when the cat's not playing with them. They
"marinate" in the catnip that way!

>My kitty LOVES the live mice I buy from pet stores.
*blink* *blink* You feed your cat live mice? Are you joking? What
you are suggesting here (and presumably doing) is horrific. It is
inhumane in the extreme to give a cat live mammalian/avian** prey --
you are not only subjecting them to a much more painful death than the
ones you can get frozen, but you are performing the ultimate betrayal
of that prey animal. 'Feeder' mice and rats are fully domestic,
human-accustomed animals. Rats (the animal I am most familiar with)
have been domesticated for so many generations that they are born
tame. Why do you think that they are so easily handleable? You are
taking an animal that trusts you enough to let you pick it up and then
turning around and subjecting it to a painful death. If I did such a
thing I couldn't look myself in the mirror. Giving live prey to cats
is just as bad as those people who give cats to their dogs to kill,
IMO. There is no reason AT ALL to do such a thing. I support the idea
of giving cats humanely-killed whole prey. It's the most biologically
appropriate food possible. However, tossing a prey animal in with a
cat to be killed by a cat is just disgusting. Rodents are animals too,
with emotions, personalities, and the ability to feel pain -- just
like cats. If a cat goes outdoors and manages to catch, kill, and eat
a prey animal, so be it. The prey animal had a chance to escape -- it
was a fair contest. What you do is nothing more than cruelty.
Nik
** The only reason that I don't just say 'all live prey' is that
feeder goldfish lack a developed-enough higher nervous system to feel
pain (as far as recent research can tell). At that point, I don't have
a problem if people want to let their cats fish.

My boys are *obsessed* with the rabbit fur mousies. They toss
them around and 'kill' them, and carry them and play fetch with them.
Then they carefully skin them, and bring me the limp empty skins, drop
them at my feet and meow as if to say 'Hey, this mousie isn't any fun
anymore, buy me a new one.'
*sigh* At least they're cheap.

Awww... Yoda loves rabbit fur mousies, but not just any old rabbit fur mousie.
It has to be the small ones, with a strip of leather for a tail, not the bigger
ones that rattle and have a feather for a tail. He's picky about his mousies.

Definitely the rabbit fur mice. I keep them in their jar of catnip for about
a month. They go nuts over these. Very cheap too a dozen for under $5 at

My male cat tears those things apart so fast it's not even funny... well,
okay, it's kinda funny. He can strip the fur off them in under five

Any thing from a balled up piece of paper, to a piece of fur left over
from a furry squirrel toy, twist ties that are twisted into circles (so
cant be swallowed)
and a few other story bought toys that they can hold with their front
paws while kickin with their back (as if it was mouse)
only 1 of my 3 is affected by catnip so I dont usually buy that too often
The kitten is still into the balls that roll across the floor (and
pouncing on the head of the middle cat)
and all 3 like to chase around the place ...

It's hard to believe what turnover of ping pong balls we have ... one would
think we're playing table tennis competitions, but it's the cat! I bought
six, then six more, then another six ... Spring cleaning will be rewarding
this year. Btw found all the lighters Micky has stolen, some had slipped

Weebles. For those who never had this wonderous toy, it's a small hard
plastic figure about three inches high with a halfsphere as a base with
a very heavy weight in it. The weight used to keep it upright, so the
slogan was "weebles wobble but they never fall down"
I used to love them and my cats love them too. Did they ever appear in
the US?

Don't mean to brag, but my cats' favorite toy is me.
