New Cat behaviour question

I have a 9 year old cat (in human years) and over the last couple weeks
she has developed a new behaviour night after night. When I go to bed,
she will lay down (presumably, since all the lights are out) in the
other room, 15 minutes later she'll cry (from the other room) for about
ten seconds until she comes in my room and lays down on the bed next to
me. She's perfectly fine the rest of the day, until I lay down for
bed, and after a few minutes she starts crying. What does it mean? Is
my cat simply having a recurring nightmare in her sleep?

maybe she is waiting for you to say goodnight or bring her to bed with you

No. When I lay down on the bed, she comes onto the bed with me and I
pet her for a few minutes and after I stop petting her she leaves the
room while I start to fall asleep, and about ten minutes later she
starts to cry and hops back onto the bed with me. She started doing
this about two weeks ago but she is doing it just about every night.

Maybe she wants you to go to bed with her for a change? Funny things, cats.

You may all think I'm nuts, but this is what I have done with similar
situations. When you hear her cry, call out to her something like "I'm
right here, sweetheart", or whatever you call her. It worked for me with a
lot of cats. I would call out "Cecil, I love you and I'm right here for
you" and the cat would stop crying.
My feeling is that they get confused when the lights go out and the sound
of your voice is security. This is especially true for the senior feline
as their senses diminish with age.
Your cat, though only 9 years old, may having trouble with her eyesight.
These kitties are so baffling sometimes.
