Perhaps you can tell me how to stop a cat from beating up on another one. I
got this 10 years old cat from a no kill shelter 8 months ago and he is
extremely aggressive to the cat I already have. I still can't leave them in
the same room together. I tried letting them outside together, and he
attacked him there, too. My happy home is no longer happy. And yes,
they're both neutered.

How did you introduce them?

That's neither here not there at this time, is it.

Actually, with the problem you describe it's a very relavent question. Don't
ask for help if you're not willing to try.

Actually, it's extremely relevant. Cats are highly
territorial, and often how they begin is how they go on. If you did
not introduce them gradually, there's good chance that if you separate
them and then introduce them properly your problem will be solved.
And please try to keep in mind that I do this professionally,
and am being nice enough to consult with you over the Internet for
free. If you're going to cop an attitude and refuse to answer
questions (which may seem irrelevant to you) that give me a better
handle on your situation, you can piss off. :)

A hard answer, but I think I would bring him back and take another cat.
There the people have to know that he can only be adopted out as an only
cat.
There *are* cats like that.

I couldn't bring myself to take him back. He was in a cage for six months
before I took him in. They have tons of cats there and it's rare that
someone comes in who will take an old cat. I did so because I'm old myself,
had just lost my cat of 17 years, and knew I wouldn't live long enough to
take in a young one.

That's very good of you. Maybe you can just separate the two for some
periods of time, so that all of you can get some peace?
Some people suggest Feliway, if you try it out, don't forget to tell us if
it works.

Might be a job for Feliway; I'm not sure how it works; I think you just
plug it into the wall and it sends out (undetectable) cat-calming chemicals.
I've got a couple cats that thoroughly detest each other... fortunately
it doesn't break out into war too often.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it but it didn't work in this case.

What I learned from Caesar Milan, Dog Whisperer:
He gets into the dogs behavior and really almost
becomes a dog. The same can be done for cats.
Learning that they aren't people and to not treat
them as people helped too. The idea that most bad
behavior is caused by the owner and not the cat too...
And not favoring one over another, even if the one
is special ... well that's hard but cats are kind of cool
in that way... if you are petting one another will come
up and help you groom the first one, if you let them
geez, I love cats.
