I have a 10 year old Burmese cat that has developed the following symptoms;
Hair loss on both ears
skin irritation and scabbing continuing on the ear that first showed
symptoms
These symptoms appeared on one ear about two months ago. Initially, there
was redness, then scabs, and finally flaking off of the scabs and loss of
hair. These symptoms proceeded to appear on the other ear. My Vet has tested
for a wide range of possible causes with no success. To date the treatment
has been ointments treating the symptoms.
The success has been mixed and obviously has not resolved the problem. Our
Vet has now recommended a Vet specializing in Dermatology and we are
proceeding down that road..
Other than this problem, our cat appears and acts normal (for him) in all
other respects. although shortly after the first symptoms appears, the cat
seemed to be sneezing periodically. That has not occurred for some time now.
My internet browsing has led me to conclude that the source of the problem
may be our cat's immune system as the symptoms are symmetrical

Could be. Which is also related to allergies.
