My mum told me tonight that someone shot my grandma's cat on New Year's Eve
:( It was shot in the leg and came home bleeding and with it's leg all torn
up. My grandma took it to the vet and they cleaned up his leg and bandaged
it. They are waiting to see how well it heals before making a decision
about whether it will need to be amputated. My grandma takes Corky back
Monday for a checkup. Hopefully everything will be ok. It's disgusting how
sick some people can be :(

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I tottally agree, some people are
plain brainless and heartless and I wish there was some kind of law
introduced to not only appropriately panish those kind of people, but also
nueter them ! If there was a decent law outthere to protect animals, many
people would think twice of doing something like this to an innocent little
cat.
I do hope leg can be saved. But even if it cannot, cats ae excellent at
adopting on life with 3 legs, so let that not worry you. He is very lucky to
be alive, and hopefully will not go near the person who has done this.
Will your grandma take this further in some way? Report it to the RSPCA or
police?

I had a cat a few years ago that had three legs, he got around just
fine.

I'm not sure if she will report it. My uncle is a police officer so he might
advise her on what to do.

Is it possible the cat was shot by a hunter accidentily?

And also remember that some idiots go out on NY''s Eve and shoot
bullets up into the sky!!! Like they're not going to come down! Maybe
kitty got hit by a bullet returning earth-ward. A Friend who's a
policeman in LA said that almost to a man, every officer in Los
Angeles, about 10 minutes until midnight, finds a parking structure
with a basement, preferably, and drives down into it until about 15
minutes after midnight. You wouldn't believe how many fools in LA do
this [shoot guns skyward] every single year. The publicity campaign
starts well before NY's, warning against the practice, but . . . . !

I don't think it was a hunter of a random bullet shot up into the sky. My
grandma lives in a fairly quiet neighborhood away from any woods or forests,
so I don't know see it being a hunter. Also, the cat was shot in the leg and
I think if it had been a bullet shot up in the sky and come back down it
would have been more likely to hit his back.
I think that some idiot probably thought Corky was a stray because he only
has one eye. So he decided to shoot him :(

Are in you in hunting country? If so than I wouldn't be so quick to
dismiss the possibility. You say your grandmother lives "in a fairly
quiet naighhood" maybe an ideal place to find whatever they are
hunting.
There are some states where unless youi live in a big city you're in
hunting country.

Well, the vet appointment was changed from Monday to today (Wed.) so I
haven't had a chance to ask my grandma how it went. My mum talked to grandma
on the weekend, and grandma said that Corky was being playful and
mischievous....dragging grandmas extra table cloth off the table and
climbing the curtains, so I think he'll be ok :) I'll update after I find
out how the vet visit went.
