Please help! Is there anything that can decrease shedding? My kitty doesn't
usually shed much but since summer began she's been shedding all over the
place. I'm assuming this is more normal for warmer months but I don't
recall it being this bad when I got her a year ago. Though she was just a
kitten then, so maybe that's why it wasn't as bad. I brush her nearly every
day but normally when I pet her I'll get a few hairs here and there, but
lately when I pet her whole handfuls of little hairs come off on my hand.
Any tips?

I have the same problem, and to be honest, I still haven't figured out a
way to "fix" the problem. It doesn't seem to matter how often I brush my
guy, he still sheds like the dickens. If I pet him, I could probably get
enough hair to make another cat again. I am hoping that someone here has
some constructive advice.

I found a tool that takes loose hair off very much the same way a
cat's tongue does: tiny angled hooks or bristles. It's a "Magik
Brush" from Evercare that I found in the cleaning gadgets section. I
have three of them in use: one in each of the two places I groom cats
and one at work to remove white cat hair from black trousers. It
doesn't do deep grooming - a grooming comb is still needed for that,
but *all* of my cats like it, even the ones that won't let me use a
regular brush on them.

And does this work well? Does it work better than just regular brushing

Hard to say - it removes loose hair, but some of my cats still require
deep grooming with a comb, some don't. The key is that most of them
don't like regular brushes and manage to get away before I get very
far with their brushing, but they all like the lint brush and treat it
as being petted rather than as being brushed so they stay around for a
more complete going over.

I think the solution here is to try to get your cat to actually stop
shedding excessively. i had a 1/2 siamese 1/2 domestic cat that had course
type fur. along his spine and near the tail i could just touch the fur and
it would come out in my hands. i knew this was not right in a health cat so
i just went to a pet shop and told sales person about it and he went to the
shelf and handed me a bottle of liquid vitamins. and it really worked. i
think he needed the usual boost that any living creature would need.
sometimes the commercial food isn't enough.

sorry i don't remember the name of the vitamins but it was really a long
time ago. just ask for the special formula to help reduce excessive
shedding in kitty's. i'm sure there is still something out there.
especially if it's passed the shedding season, i would assume there is
something wrong in the nutrition department, wouldn't you?
