We just recently moved to Portland, Oregon and two of my four otherwise,
never-sick cats are experiencing heavy sneezing, watery-eyes, slight
coughing symptoms.

We came from Iowa which has huge doses of allergy causes but they never
reacted there. But this being their first springtime in the Pacific
Northwest I am wondering if there are getting hayfever of their own. I
am an allergy sufferer myself and the conditions over the past week have
been nasty after heavy rain then much heat, sunshine.

Anyone else have sneezing cats in the spring, especially in the Pac NW?
Nothing is sadder than a cat that cannot take a nap due to constant
sneezing....

If they are not better by mid-week Ill take them to to the vet.

Cheers,
Dave and the Katz

Never had allergies when I lived in West Chester Penna.

Moved to Hawaii, thought I was gonna die for awhile - then they went away.

Moved back to near West Chester about 20 years later, went for walk in the woods
I used to roam as a kid and somebody had to lead me out - eyes swollen
completely shut, hardly able to breathe.

Bottom line: allergies can come and go.

Now honestly: Hayfever in cats? Would it not rather be an infection? Maybe
due to the move?

Allergies are common though, mostly reactions to food.

YES, honestly , allergies in cats....

copied from Homevet.com:

Upper respiratory signs. Coughing, sneezing, wheezing and runny eyes can
be signs of allergies, but coughing and wheezing may also reflect
serious conditions such as heart or lung disease. Feline atopy, similar
to human hay fever/ragweed allergy, is probably inherited and usually
seasonal, but it can develop into a year-round problem with both skin
and respiratory symptoms.

"I frequently see sneezing and runny eyes in the spring and fall, which
are inhaled allergies" Dr. Chambreau says.

Feline asthma, an immune-mediated disease, is often triggered by
inhalant allergens. "Cats, especially have a large emotional component
with allergies," adds Dr. Siwek.
