Hi!

I am new here and i got three indoor cats.
Besides, i try and feed and look after kittys that live in the park on
the other side of the street.
Now there is a new tom, and he seems to have very strange ears. they
are both thickly swollen and as far as i can see not soft and wobbly
as in i had a scratch gone bad, but hard as stones. he always keeps
his distance and i cant get close to him. otherwise he seems to be
pretty healthy and actually quite lively, but i am concerned bout
those ears.

Has anybody ever heard or seen something like this and what could i
do?
id like to help him, hes such a nice cat.

thanks,
Alex

I wish I could help but really don;t know. It just doesn;t sound right, the
ears might be full of puss which is why they are big and red, or it could be
something else, but I dothink it's a desease. if there is any way to catch
him, do, and maybe take to the vet. He may be in extreme pain. As a stray
and probably not fixed  tom I suppose he does fight a lot, hence the
infection. Cats mouths are notorious for all sorts of bacteria, and bites
can leave nasty wounds.

You could also try and post this to alt.med.veterinary for more opionion.

Good luck in catching it.

Short note just to tell everything seems to turn out fine for Tigger.
We brought him to a vet and found a new home at a good friends place,
who already has two ex-strays and knows what to do. He will be an
outdoor cat of course as soon as he has learned where he has his new
headquarters ;)

About the ears: its scar tissue gone "wild", but not harmful.
Definetely not cancer, which was my worst fear. Nothing to really
worry about as much as I did.
He has worms and fleas and about every other critter you can possibly
get, but everything is cared for.
So good news for once, and thanks for your help!

Ill post that in both NGs where I asked so nobody has to worry ;)

Greetings, Alex

Such a great news! I love happy endings! So the ears problem was  ascar
tissue? That means he did have serious infection there in the past which
healed with scar tissue. Poor love he must have been in apain at some point,
but lucky thing as well, for having you to be his guardian angel and saving
his overpopulated butt :)

That reminds me of my Charlie , a former stray. I was seeing him around when
he was a yongster, a sweet little beautiful thing. Then good few months
later, when I saw him he had his tail constantly down. I rememebr that was
wierd, becuase me and neighbour were trying to establish if he was a he or a
she, and noticed he wasn;t moving his tail. Even though he would let humans
near, when we tried to touch his back he wasnt impressed and took off. Again
after a few months I saw him again, and tail was waging again. But once he
moved himself in, and let me be near, I got to realise how much he still
hates having his tail touched and back of the back. In fact he bites if I
try. i spoke to vet who said he probably had either a car accident and his
tail was possibly broken and back damaged, but becuase he was a stray it has
long time agao healed and there wasn;t much they can do now. So I try my
best to be gentle when I lift him, and never to touch his back end, and I do
hope my boy is not in constant pain or discomfort. He does appear happy and
is more then mobile especially when chasing Tigger around the house!

What was the point of my story???? Oh yeah, happy endings :)

Bless

Gee
