Taking CJ to the vet

Here's the scene: CJ is locked in the master bathroom and is scheduled
for "the operation" this morning - CJ is a young and energetic cat
while I'm an old and slow arthritic human; practice rounds last night
indicated that when I tried to go into the bathroom, CJ would slip
past and be impossible to catch for a while; the bathroom door opens
onto a hall with two other doors, and a wide open entrance to the
living room with no door.  Problem: how to constrain the cat to an
area where I could corner him - the doors could be closed, but that
left the wide open end.  Solution: partially inflate an air mattress
in a "V" shape across the opening - now all the exits are blocked.

Time came to do this, and it worked well.  Then I took a piece of
plywood to block the door space between and around my legs as I opened
the door, and began to slip inside.  CJ had been screaming and trying
to dig his way under the door most of the night, and had resumed when
I got up this morning.  Now, after all that preparation, he was
quietly resting next to the toilet and cooperated completely in being
picked up and put into the carrier - all that work for nothing.  Of
course, if I had not done it, he would hiding in a closet in a bedroom
or behind the TV and I would never have caught him in time.

My Rexie pulls similar tactics on me. I have MS and am not as agile as I
used to be. Although I still walk okay inside the house, no way can I catch
Rexie when he sits on the floor either directly underneath the dining room
table, or worse, under the bed! And I have to take him to the vet Friday to
be weighed. If my hubby is home, he can trap the little devil for me, but
unfortunately, he won't be here Friday.

My plan is to get up in the a.m., go into the garage and get the carrier
ready, and put it in the car; then come back in, eat my breakfast, feed
Rexie (see, all is normal!). Then when he's sitting at his food bowl
sometime in the a.m., grab him and take him into the garage and into the
carrier. That way, he won't see it til it's too late.

At least that's my plan . . .

But you know what Robert Burns said, "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
/ Gang aft a-gley." (go awry)

If I tried that with most of my cats, I would need medical attention
and the cat would be off the property in the woods somewhere, not to
be seen again for hours or even days.

CJ came through surgery fine, but they forgot to remove his mats -
they are supposed to do that sometime tomorrow, but I'll still get him
back at the regular time: after work.  We are supposed to have
thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon about that time.

Oh great! So you get to bring  an already pissed cat, in some pain probably,
home in a car (which they hate anyway, at least mine does) during a
thunderstorm!  You can borrow my Robert Burns quote anytime!  Good luck!!

Two weeks ago I had to take Sissy & Neko in for their yearly shots.  I put
Nekos carrier in the car, went back into the house and grabbed her and took
her out to the car.  Then grabbed the smaller carrier and opened it, went in
the back door and set it down very quitely and grabbed Sissy and stuffed her
in.  Took her to the car and off we went.

Such a wonderful duet was offered to me on our trip to Dr. Hills.

In a carrier, fortunately - I'm the one who would get wet if it does
rain.  He was a lot quieter on both trips so far than most of the cats
I've had to transport by car/truck.

I would quite hate that vet - why don't they take notes when
you tell them what to do?
If I have several things I want done I bring them a list, same with the car.

I made the appointment and gave them the list of things to do before I
got the cat - the fur stuff was verbal add-on when I brought him in,
and after I found out how bad his coat was.

BTW, the rain has been canceled for this afternoon - later forecast
says cloudy with the sun occasionally peeking through.  It's been a
mostly clear and sunny day with just a few whisps of high clouds.
They are still saying thunderstorms after midnight.  CJ will have been
long home before that - I get him back about an hour from now.
