a few months ago some nice person dropped off a cat in my neighborhood.
We have taken it in. We think it is a female but not sure. Do female cat
spray. We are still in the stage of making friends.
Thank you very much

As I found the hard way they do.

Uh...any notion of going to a vet for vaccinations? general exam to determine
if the cat is healthy? spaying/neutering? a determination of the cat's gender?

Female cats can spray, best advice is as above, get the cat to a vet.
Everyone here loves cats, some have more expertise than others, the only one
who counts is the vet who actually sees the cat.

Yes, they can spray too. If it's a male you can see it very well, even if he
is neutered. If you see 'nothing' then most like you have a female. Did you
ever consider getting her spayed? This would solve the problem too.

No it won't.  My female was spayed and she still sprayed.

Both male and female cats can spray, but it is more likely among males.
Likewise, spayed cats are far less likely to spray, but it can occur.

First off bless you for taking the cat (Named yet?) in and giving it a
good home.  Second males and females can both spray.
