My female kitty (8 months old) uses the litter box, but she squats to start
peeing and right before she lets go or as she is going, she stands straight
up and the pee goes on the wall and down the side of litter box. She was the
runt of the litter & last one born. Could this be part of it?
I've tried pushing her butt down but she just stops & leaves the box. Any
thoughts?

You might try that. I wouldn't know what else to try. You might also
consider getting a covered litterbox.

You might want to take her to the vet. We had a cat that started doing
that, and we were puzzled. It turns out (after a 2nd vet opinion) that
Jabba had a spine problem and it was painful for her to squat. It was
probably arthritis.
By the way, don't push her butt down! I made that mistake. I upset her
and she no longer even tried to use the box. She thought of it as a bad
place after that.
Good luck,
Rhonda

Thanks for your advice. I did buy a covered litter box today. She's only 8
months, and she's been spayed since 6 months. Other signs of kidney
infection?
Re the arthitis, when she was just a few weeks old, I thought one of kids
had stepped on her because she didn't get her balance near as quick as the 3
others and actual dragged one back foot for a day. (the two kids 10 & 15,
SWORE they didn't and I think they'd tell me). But she's been normal since
then and is the most playful of all the kittens & most energetic! (Also, my
favorite, she actual fetches! She brings bread ties to me, I throw them, she
chased adn brings it right back to me!)

Has she been to the vet? Has she always done this or is it new? Has she been
spayed? She could have a UTI and it doesn't hurt as bad if she stands up and
starts leaving the box. Get a covered box to help prevent her peeing on
areas around the box. Good Luck. Being the runt has never really changed any
cats I have ever had, so I wouldn't think that is a major factor.

I agree that pushing her butt down is not a good idea. You could try
the covered box or a deep storage box. That's what I use,at least 11
inches deep. From Walmart they're about $5 on sale.
Has she been spayed? She may be coming into heat. Just be glad she's
using the box.
