Nope. I noticed it also. But did you also notice that some of the US
specific responses came from that "catkb" web site, wich is aparently
populated by people who have no knowlege of the working of the internet, let
alone usenet, and that the internet is international???
Anyway, I was wondering if Carola would accept one as a gift from someone in
the US, since it seems that laser pointers aren't that prolific where she
is, therefore more expensive. And most places that sell them online cheap
are US-er as well, and shipping overseas wpi;d bankrupt her?

I had a good laugh at the answers, but it *is* interesting to see where you
people get your laser pointers.
I have a relative who lives in California and NY, she works as a flight
attendant
and we meet every now and again, so she will be able to get me one.
I'll give all the addresses that were posted here to her.
It really seems to be the case that no shop sells them here
(maybe because they're too dangerous?). I have tried
quality supermarkets, hobby shops, electronics shops, newsagent's
- with no luck. :-(

Have you tried places that sell business/office supplies and
equipment? They are popular as pointers during slide shows and
presentations. People who sell other things used at meetings and
presentations might have them too.
Here's a Swiss link: <http://www.expansys.ch/product.asp?code=LPOINT>
- they do exist and can be had for CHF25.95.
