Thomas Avery - 13 Apr 2005 16:25 GMT I have two cats, each about a year old. They absoutely refuse to eat seafood in any form. They will only eat chicken, turkey, veal, and beef cat food. Is this unusual? I had three cats in the past who loved seafood.

The only "Human" food he will eat is two little (and I mean little), bits of regular lays potato chips. After that he just sticks his nose in the air and walks away. Now my other little girl is completely different story. She will eat ANYTHING that she can get her little paws on. She even knows how to open the refrigerator. The little minx. LOL

LOL One of my cats will throw up the seafood stuff but can keep people tuna down. Neither cat will touch any cat treat I have ever put in front of them. Lately, they have taken to only licking the gravy off the canned cat food. For treats they prefer a sliver of American cheese, chicken or turkey. One will do as you say with potato chips, only she seems to prefer the BBQ chips. Two or three bites and that's it. When I first got the two of them, one camped out in front of the refrigerator for the first month and cried for food every time I walked by it.

However, she won't stop at just two or three bites. She's right after you until the whole bag is gone. If you try to put it away for another day, she will do everything in her power to find it, and then to open it and help herself. Now before anyone tries to say that she is "Starving", I feed her four times a day, and she has dry food available to her 24/7. She weighs 10 pounds and is as healthy as a horse. She just likes to eat. I think it's because she had to scrounge around for food among many other cats when she was just 3 - 4 weeks old.
RJ - 14 Apr 2005 22:49 GMT Both my older cats refuse to eat seafood and people's food, except ham. They love ham. Now our little one eats anything in her path.

That's not entirely a bad thing, either; I've heard fish can contribute to urinary problems; particularly in males who are prone to UTI.

But then again the staff of the pet shop said there are more valuable Omega 3 and 6 oils in dry fish food. I'm a bit confused at the moment about what food is best. But I do avoid cheap crap and sugar, which is in most wet food though.
Our Nera who became well over 20 (at the end we lost count) was never ever ill. She got supermarket wet food if she took it, Brekkies from the supermarket, and every now and again a piece of raw liver or lung. On top of it she stole the rotten leftovers from the neighbours. So that was no excellent diet, too much liver is bad on top of it, and yet she was always healthy. But she was very shy, that meant she avoided all sorts of troubles when she was outdoors. She even ran inside when a plane flew over the house.

There's no earthly reason to put sugar in cat food, except to make it palapable? No wonder we had a hard time getting our cats to start eating premium food.

Karin Gillette - 13 Apr 2005 23:15 GMT Our Neko will eat any catfood or cat treat we put in front of her. Sissy will only eat any catfood but only the hard tuna treats. Sissy used to like chicken but she always coughed it up and now she won't even touch it. When we put treats out for Neko we just put them down and leave the room. For Sissy she eats out of my hand and when she quits eating I put them away if she hasn't eaten them all as Neko will come finish them.
We only do a few at any time.

They turn their noses up at most treats, esp. the soft ones. I got a small sample of Purina Dental Diet in the mail once. They went after it like it was cat candy. So I buy a box once in a while, and dole it out like treats. Go figure. It probably costs a hundred times less than packaged treats, and they love it. Unbelievable.
