For reasons I won't go into, I was in the back yard about sunrise this
morning and noticed Avery and Ozy on the garage roof
(<http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/2005/avery_ozy_roof.jpg>)
which left me puzzled: how did they get up there? What were they doing
up there? and How are they going to get down? I went inside and got
my camera, and took the picture. Then I went back inside, put the
camera away, and went into the bedroom to dress for work - Ozy was on
the bed. More evidence in favor of feline teleportation.
A couple of nights ago I awoke to find the front end of a cat on my
chest. Nothing unusual in that. Naturally and automatically, I
started petting the cat. Something didn't feel right. I opened my
eyes, and in the dimness could make out a white face on a dark cat -
it wasn't Tigger (he was at my feet); it wasn't Avery (too big). At
this point I was getting suspicious, so I lifted his chin and saw the
large black spot: it was Mickey. Mickey
(<http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/2005/mickey_classic.jpg>) is
my neighbor's cat who moved in with me last fall. I thought we had
reached an understanding that he was to stay out of the main part of
the house, at least when I'm home - I had fixed him up with a padded
shelf in the mud room and he had mostly been staying there, but
recently he had been coming in to demand milk/cream and to nap in
front of the freezer. According to his humans, he has never been a
bed cat.
I think Mickey has retired from full time outdoor mouser and has, in
effect, moved into a retirement village for cats. He just turned
fourteen.
This last picture
(<http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/2005/fleagor_millie_cuddle.jpg>)
is of the large and small of cats: Fleagor is huge; Millie is tiny -
note that she is curled up between his front and back legs. These two
do a lot of cuddline like this. One time I slipped my hand between
them - it was almost hot in there.

How quickly they can transport themselves.
Our cats don't sleep that close but my Sissy likes to get under the covers
and sometimes when she gets out she is so warm.
Mickey apparently has decided to become a bed cat!
All the pictures are so cute.
