Not sure where to ask this question however I have a maine coon
cat....weighs in at 27 lbs...I want a harness for him as to take him
outside....I do not know where to get one...the pet stores here do not have
one large enough for a cat. They suggested a dog harness...is this
proper...would it be safe or does anyone know of where I may purchase one.
Thanks in advance

No problem, take one for a small dog, terrier or so. It might even be better
quality than a cat harness. The leash would be too small though. Buy a nice
coloured thick string and add a carabine (spell checker objects, but I found
the word in the dictionary...).

Dog harnesses don't fit cats properly. You should be able to get a
figure-8 type cat harness - the problem would be getting one big
enough, not small enough. They are available by mail order, or you
could examine pictures of them and try making one yourself - you would
need a strap with buckle (like a fabric belt), and something to
restrain the crossover and provide a ring to hook the leash to.

Ted, I disagree with you on the dog harness thing. I too have a 27 pound
cat and couldn't find a harness big enough for him. I bought a harness
for a medium sized dog, and it works perfectly.

I agree with you jacquie0. Though my cat is half the size of yours or Ted's,
a small size dog harness worked very well while my cat was still attached to
a leash.

Hi Elaine,
I had a similar problem getting a harness for Bats (Havana) when he was a
kitten but for the opposite reason - he was so slinky and slender - nothing
would fit him!
Then I hit on Harmony Buckles: their harnesses are all very adjustable and
safe, and they all have a lovely Tao Symbol as the buckle!
You can find them at
http://www.harmonybuckles.com/merchant/index.html
and they also do harnesses for puppies - so you should get something very
stylish.... not that it will show with all your pusscats lovely fur coat!
Best wishes,
Samantha
