First, you should give your vet or an "on call" vet service a call . . . it
seems unusual that would occur this long after the shot. I would expect any
lethargy before a full day had passed.
Have you tried to wake him, interest him in some food? Perhaps he is just
tired from his whole new experience. Did he do a lot of exploring when you
got him home?
When you say "hours" what timeline are we speaking of? I have a 3 year old
female who does not drink as frequently as my 14 y.o male. There is nothing
wrong with her. If she has had vigorous play, she will sleep for 4 or 5
hours at a stretch.
I would try to get your kitty moving, see if you can spark any interest. If
there appears to be a problem, I would call a vet and see if you can get
some advice. It may be possible that the vaccine caused a
reaction.............but then again, there was quite a time span between the
injection and your cat's slow-down. He might just be tired today :)
Let us know!

Thanks Melody! I'm so anxious and worried about him. Maybe if we had him
for a few years I would know all about this stuff already. He got the shot
around 8:45 last night, seemed to be okay this morning, been sleeping or
resting on our bed since about 1:00 or 1:30 pm today. It's almost 9 pm here
now. I've been checking on him every half hour and giving him some pets.
:-) I don't want to bug him either. Since he was adopted from a shelter I
have no idea what his life was like before. He was extremely timid and
we're only had him for a week. You should've seen him with the vet. It was
awful! He kept trying to get away and then my husband held him down while
the vet did his thing. I wanted to cry. Thanks so much. I'm going to
check on him again. The vet did say to expect this, but I'm still worried.

With humans there has been some controversy involving using mercury as a
preservative. I don't know what they use for pet vaccines. Is there a
similar controversy involving pet vaccines?

I don't know, Mike. I'm really new to this after not having a pet for about
30 years. I hope they don't use mercury in pet vaccines.
