Just a report of something cute/weird. My Rexie is 2 1/2, full Siamese according to the
vet, but feral (he & mom found outside, and vet says mom probably was also feral).  I've
had him since 4 weeks, so I'm Mommy.  He doesn't really love being held and will mostly
try to jump down, except at night, when he'll come to me in bed and sleep on me for 15 min
or so several times a night.   He tolerates my hubby, but when Jim is playing with him,
say with his wand/string/feather, Rex will get hold of it, jerk it away from Jim and drag
it to me.

That said, Jim travels a lot. When I'm home (it's just Rex and me), Rex will sleep, play
by himself, bug me into playing with him with one of his toys, etc. Once in a while if I'm
watching tv he'll jump up and sit on me, but this is not common. He loves me and wants
attention, just at a distance!

BUT . . . If Jim calls on the phone and I'm talking for, say, 5+ minutes, Rex will come
running in and jump up on me and stay til I'm off the phone.  This DOES NOT HAPPEN when
anyone else calls, just Jim.  (We figure it's my tone of voice)

But it's only happened when I've been in my recliner.

Last nite, Jim called while I was eating my dinner and since I had just started and it was
hot, I kept eating. We have an island in the kitchen, about 24" by 5 or so feet. I'm at
one end on a stool.  I'm on the phone, when out of nowhere, in charges Rexie, jumps up on
the stool at the other end of the island, trots all the way to me, right past my food,
paying no attention to it at all, comes to the end of the island and reaches with both
front feet to my shoulder and hops onto me.

Of course I grabbed him, and he proceeded to hang on to me until I was off the phone. This
was a little difficult, since he tries to get as high on my chest as he can. And with me
sitting at the island, holding the phone with one hand and him with the other, no eating.

We were on the phone another 5 min or so, and as soon as I put it down, he jumped down to
the floor !!

It's almost like he knows it's Jim on the phone and resents me talking to him, so he
insists on being part of the conversation!

Oh well, just an observation.

Maybe the cat wants to his voice?

A number of years ago I had a cat who when
he heard a particular persons voice (a friend of
mine) would jump up on the table where the
answering machine was to greet this friend which
she was fond of.

Interesting. This is just a vague suggestion, but perhaps Rexie really
does like your husband, and this is her uncanny way of showing her
affection. Could definitely be related to the fact that your spouse is
gone frequently. Just a far out suggestion.

Please keep us updated.

While you search for answers, I highly recommend posting on this board.
There are many active cat owners all over it.

It sound to me like your kitty doesn't dislike you husband at all. He just
keeps his affections for you. You husband is part of the pride so you kitty
wants to see what's up.

Hi Shadow Walker and Andrew. Yes, I keep telling Jim Rexie does like him, but he does
favor me naturally, as Mommy.

He (Rexie is a male) lays in wait for Jim around a corner, ready to pounce, so Jim will
slow down and stick his toe around the corner. Rex never really pounces, but just gets all
excited and heads for his food bowl. He likes Jim (and me) to stand and pet him while he
eats. Used to worry me that he wouldn't eat enough, but he's about a pound too heavy (13
lbs), so we know he eats when we're not around.

I think he views Jim as another male, and therefore, competition. The little bugger was
'snipped' at exactly 16 weeks, so we haven't had any 'male cat' problems, as some have.

Anyhow, whatever the problems, I am firmly looped around his little paw.

Put him in the bathroom while you're on the phone, or squirt them with water
until they get the message.

I think he's asking for his own mobile.

Make sure it has text messaging on it or it will be useless to him.....
