Looking for cat

Friends of mine are looking for an indoor only cat.
It's an elderly couple, and it would be their first cat.
They want an affectionate cat.
Now there is exactly such a cat in the shelter, a 13 year old purebred
Persian, grey and white with a pretty face.

Questions:
13 years old is a bit old, isn't it?
Did the previous owner maybe bring the cat into the shelter because
expensive vet costs are to be expected?
(I don't trust the vet there, he gave me a sick cat once, and I had to spend
a fortune.)
The couple have two chatty budgies in a cage who never get out.
Would the cat leave them alone?
Would they upset the cat or would it just like to sit on its tree and watch
them?

My first idea was to look in the paper for a cat that the owner gives away
with all the accessories, but of course you see these ads, but if you're
looking for one, there's nowt!

Thanks.

Carola

I have one cat who is now 15, I had a second cat (male) who
died last year at the age of 19.

Around here the most predominent reason for a cat being
surrendered is the landlord doesn't allow pets.

The cat will sit there looking at the bird thining "dinner"

As far as health? Who knows.  If you can have vet check things out.

Whenever I get a new cat I keep the new cat seperated until
I get the new cat checked out by vet.

It's possible the former owner surrendered the cat due to
impending medical issues, but it is more likely that
the landlord said no pets.

Here, this is most unlikely. Most house owners allow indoor cats.
And a responsible cat owner would consider that when moving.

The shelter stresses in the add that the cat is looking for a *quiet* place,
I think it could be a noise issue with him.

Here's his pic, look for Zaphir.

And I did go to a vet today leaving our addresses how somebody advised us to
do, thanks.

Thirteen is old.  Not terribly old, but likely getting into the high
maintenance area.

My idea of the ideal cat for them would be a cat under seven years old, in
verifiable good health that another elderly person or couple had to give up
due to a nursing home move or no longer being able to care for it.

I'd try telling a vet or several vets what they are interested in and I'd
bet they get a call within a few weeks.

Hi M.C Mullen,

Are you still looking for a cat who has been well loved and needs a new
home?

Sheba's Mom

Well, that elderly couple is, but the man is still undecided.

Why, have you got one?
Probably somewhere in America LOL?

Hi Carola,

Thank you for your email.  I'm so excited to have someone interested!!!
I've been picky.  Sheba has been mine and my husbands second little baby
along with our little chiuahua (sp?) mixed w/terrier, dog Foxy.  Foxy is
jealous of Sheba and makes it hard to show Sheba the attention she
deserves.  Foxy was our first and we have a stronger bond to keep her.

Sheba came from a co-worker of mine as a newborn kitten.  She is solid
mink black, very soft long hair, 4yrs old, green eyes and healthy as ever
and has had routine vet vists on her own health plan!  She is fixed.  She
is affectionate and likes to be petted and sit on the lap.  And then there
are times she likes to just be in the room with you in her own space.
She'll follow you around until you settle in one spot!  This is why I
thought of a retired person/couple or elderly person or couple.  She likes
to be around her mom/dad!

Anyway, I have every accessory possible, i.e. tree house, toys,
scratchers, etc. and would want her to have it to go with her!

It's very important to me that if it doesn't work out, I can be contacted.
This takes the pressure off of everyone.

What do ya think?
