we have two male cats, have had one for 11 years, the second for about 4
years "both fixed"  one  (or both) is sneaking around and peeing on
everything, we find cat pee on anything left on the floor, shoes, slippers,
shirts,  one of them has been peeing on the sofa, we got rid of it and got a
new one, lasted about a week,  peed on again, we cannot catch the guilty
party. we live out in the woods, and we hava a kitty door so both cats can
go out whenever they want both  in and out 24/7 all year. we also have a
litter box set up in the garage incase they don't want to go out when it is
extremely cold. we dont know who is doing it nor why. can anyone help with
these questions?
thanx

Could it be a cat that is not your cat?

That's what I was thinking -- maybe another cat is sneaking in and
marking things. Or maybe another cat came in, so your current cats feel
the need to mark everything.

Is this new behavior? If so, I'd take them both to the vet for a
checkup. One or both could have a bladder infection or stones.

Good luck,

Rhonda

Yes, and it's also important to know if they've done it all their lives
(then behavioural) or started recently (then it's medical).
Do the cats get on well with each other?

When was the last time they saw the vet?  Inappropriate urination is
one of the signs of a urinary track infection.
