Has anyone ever heard of setting up a small oxygen tent for a pet at home
for times of respiratory crisis? Do such things exist for sale? I have an
asthmatic cat who is fighting off a bad case of pneumonia. Our doctor said
we should look into having something like this at home, as we can't afford
to have him at the hospital for this. Is it even feasible?
Thanks very much,
RLL

I haven't heard of it. A lot of people use oxygen. One could take an
over-sized pet carrier, cover most of the holes, and pump oxygen into it.
You would need some airflow to get rid of CO2. This would make it somewhat
wasteful, in that you would be pumping more oxygen in than what the cat is
using. Did you get any specs on how much oxygen/airflow you need?

Hi there,
We did that for a rabbit. My boyfriend used coat-hanger wire and
fashioned supports for a little tent, and we hung saran wrap to the
floor. It was not very air-tight, but did give Buns some added oxygen.
Someone else did it for a rabbit in a pet porter. I believe they used
some sort of plastic wrap around the outside.
As for getting the oxygen, we just looked in the yellow pages under
medical supplies. We found a lady who sells it out of her home. You take
a big tank home, but if you return it partially used, you get a refund
for the difference. We just ran a tube from the tank into the tent.
Good luck with your kitty,
Rhonda

Since your vet is the one who recommended this kind of thing, I would be
apt to ask them where and how I would be able to get ahold of such a
contraption. I'm sure that they have an idea as to where and how to get
one. If not, maybe they would be able to tell you where to start looking
for one. Hope this helps, and I hope that your kitty is better soon.

That would be great if they have those for pets now. When we needed one
5 years ago, our vet, nor anyone else we asked had heard of them for pets!

Yes, they do exist--at the vet's. Ask him about his supplier.

All I can think of is a tent for babies.
