One of our cats likes chewing on the cardboard piece of hangers that you
get back from the cleaners (the small somewhat sticky cardboard tube
that goes between the metal ends that you use to hang pants on).  I
don't know if its the sticky taste that he likes or if he just likes
chewing on it but if we ever leave one out, he has at it.  Do you think
there would be any bad effects of letting him chew on these?  He seems
to really like it.

I used them to play with the cats but quit when I observed them swallowing
bits of the paper now and then.

My vet actually recommended that I purchase a "dog toy" for my cat to
chew on. They said that sometimes cats will chew on things as a way to
help clean their teeth. Buying a rubber dog toy, or a denta-bone for
your cat will help aleviate both problems. This way, they can't swallow
anything that is harmful to them.
I hope that this helps.

Thanks Jacquie0, I'll give the chew strips a try.

I don't think there's much danger from playing with them as long as he's
not eating quantities of cardboard. Mine love toilet-paper rolls and oh
those vicious rolls of paper towels that must have the stuffing kicked
out of them until they are dead. :)

Harmful only if there's glue on it and if he swallows it.
