Hi all,
I am new here and new to the world of cats.  Our family cat, Koshka (7
months old), is coming home from the vet today after a spaying operation and
a corneal operation.  The day before her spaying she came home bleeding
blood and fluid from her eye.  So I here looking for general tips on caring
for sick cats.  She will be on 2 different eye drops and 2 different oral
medications.  She will have one of those funnel collars around her neck.  Is
there anything I can to do help her and us care for her.  And what are the
chances of her losing that eye?  The vet had to scrap away some of her iris
and cut off some of the cornea and now she has her third eye lid sutured
over the whole eye!  ICK.  Has anyone here ever had to deal with this and if
so how long did it take for the cat to heal?
Thanks for your time.

If she has to keep the funnel on for a few days, you may want to help her
groom - something like running a damp washcloth over her body. It may seem
trivial but I had a cat who was sick and couldn't groom herself, and that
little bath made her perk right up. I wish I could give you some answers to
the eye question, but I don't have experince with it. What does your vet
think?

I had a dog run a locust thorn through her eye a couple of years ago.
BOTH eyes sunk in her head and I was sure, she was going to be blind. She
had surgery, and responded well, with full vision restored. You can't
tell she had issues at one time, unless you were an opthamologist

Poor kitty! I hope she recovers quickly. You are clearly on the right track caring for your kitty by trying to learn as much as you can. She is lucky to have a dedicated human to care for him. I really don't know anything about this condition. Sorry I can't be of more help. You may find it a little tough to give her the pills she has to take. Many kitties don't really cooperate with the whole process! I would suggest that you get your vet to show you exactly how to give the pill. There really is a trick to it. Learning the proper way to do it can avoid alot of hassle for you and your kitty. Best of luck!

Hey, Thanks for all the replies and great tips.  I never would of thought to
help her groom.  Koshka is home now.  She is really calm and doesn't even
need a collar.  The vet was impressed with how well she took her medicine.
She is not fussing with either (eye and spay) wound.  The vet gave us a
"pill popper" to bring home and it seems to be helpful.  So it is looking
promising for poor Koshka.  I will look at this experience as bonding her to
us as a family.  Thanks again.
