Hi :o)

I wonder if any of you lovely, kind -hearted people have any
ideas for us.

On Feb., 15, 2005, we are leaving England to try for a new Life.
I am originally from upstate NY, but I have been here since Aug. 2001
with my British boyfriend (who became my hubby on Dec. 17, 2001.)  We
have a sweet baby who was born with Down Syndrome, Nov. 6, 2003.

We also have the sweetest British gentleman of a cat I have ever met!
His full name is Giles Elton Taylor, but he usually answers to
*Gilesy* :o)
You can see him here :
http://www.lazygoth.fsnet.co.uk/digits/gtc.jpg

We are flying out with Continental, out of Birmingham Airport,
West Midlands, England. The only way Continental will allow Gilesy to
fly with us is to have us go through a freight handler or pet
relocation service. On top of Continental's steep charge, after
speaking with, perhaps, over 100 such companies, the most inexpensive
way to have Gilesy fly *with* us on that flight comes to about
$1000 US! We can not possibly afford it.

Today, I have called every other airline who will
fly out of Birmingham Airport that Day, and most of them will not fly
Gilesy out of Birmingham, as they all must stop over in other
locations before they head for Newark, and they say they are not
equipped. Only two airlines have given us a *tiny* glimmer of hope,
United Airlines, and Lufthansa.  Lufthansa has given us the *most*
hope, but we still would have to go through a broker (freight handler)
*if* they say yes.

We are desperately sad at the thought of leaving Gilesy behind.

If any of you have any experience with such an event, or any ideas
or information, please be so kind as to email me at
cherylfaith@paradiseplace.org.uk

I wish all of you a beautiful Day or Evening, whichever is appropriate
at this time, and we send you our Heartfelt thanks!

Giles after Rupert Giles on Buffy?
Elton after Elton John?
Taylor after Taylor on Gilmore Girls?

As far as how to get the cat to the US from England I have no idea.

>Giles after Rupert Giles on Buffy?

Yes! :o) I actually spent a weekend with him...
:o)
Halloween, 1998....with Tony Head and a group of NorthEastern fans.
Are you a fan, too? :o)
We participated in an AIDSWALK in Connecticut. I was one of the 2
organizers of our group, "A Stake In The Future," so I actually
got to spend time with him, talking! We arranged a *tea* for him after
the parade, and I got to sit next to him for 2 hours!! :o)

And now, I live in England.....No, I didn't follow him here LOL
:o).....But he likely contributed to my Anglophilism >:o)
Life is pretty interesting, isn't it?!
....You have brought me back a ton of memories! :o) Thanks!

>Elton after Elton John?

Yes, again! I've been a fan since I was 8 years old, back in NY
State :o)  Probably another reason I ended up here. Life *is* so
weird, isn't it? Are you a fan? My husband took me to see him perform
in Birmingham, here in his native country, in 2002. Wow! (I was the
loudest fan in the audience (maybe I was the only American :o)

>Taylor after Taylor on Gilmore Girls?

No on that one :o)  Taylor is my husband's last name, so I
thought it was only fitting, since I decided to take the name
"Taylor," as well :o)

>As far as how to get the cat to the US from England I have no idea.

Yes. You're in England right? Any word on his series? (The one that is
supposed to be based on Giles?)

I heard that series fell through for the time being. It was supposed to
be called "Ripper" or something like that.

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing it.

Yeah that is what they were supposed to call it.   Hasn't been
cancelled, also hasn't been made last I heard.   In limbo?

Considering Buffy is gone, Angel is gone, Firefly is making
the movie.   Sounds like Ripper won't happen any time soon.
But we can always hope for the future.

I did see the first episode. I think it must have been early on
in my knocked-up stage??.....I don't remember being able to watch it
much after the first time....A ton of strange things have happened
besides our Surprise Beautiful Baby, since I've been here.  I have
always felt so guilty abut not continuing to view the series with Tony
Head.
I *do* remember feeling a little annoyed at the first episode, though,
as Tony's character was supposed to be having a little trouble in the
ummm....his character  needed Viagra, I think! >;o)

Have you experienced an Elton Concert? Me, 4, since age 13!

XXXX's to ELTON!!!!

I think I was a fan early in his career, too,  although I was a
little girl then!
I bet you were little, as well :o)

Although my Musical tastes are wide and varied, Elton is one of my
Muses and is like a god in my mind.....one of Three who have affected
my Life to an amazing extent.....Elton, Kate Bush (influenced by
Elton; do you know her work?) & Jim Morrison, (the Poet, more so even
than the Musician.)  A strange mix, right?

*Do* you like Kate Bush??  She is responsible for uniting me with
Robin, my husband, via  a fangroup on Usenet.....I wasn't *looking*
for Robin, that I knew of, but Kate stepped in.......
If you want to see or hear any more about Kate, you can check out:

www.paradiseplace.org.uk

She has even done several Elton covers....She's awesome! Only problem
is, she hasn't produced much for her loving fans in over 20 years!
She's a mommy now, too....But I have a feeling you already know all
this.

    Thanks for your responses!

Oh! Kate's another cat lover :o)

Meow Meow Mew!!

Happy Weekend!

My understanding is Ripper never actually got made in any capacity.
The "first episode" was probably one of the many episodes of
Buffy he appeared in.

I remember when Elton John started his career but then I also
remember when four relative unknowns appeared on the Ed Sullivan
Show and the rest shall we say is history.  (The Beatles)

I'm not familiar with Kate Bush,   I do remember Jim Morrison.   I
also remember his music and the they he "died" (There are those who
still don't believe he really died?)

    No, another series....ssomehting about 4 single, middle-aged
men...I don't think many episodes even *aired*.....Do you know about
this short-lived show?

Wow!!   That is tres cool! I think that was....'63, '64',
'65??  I have a very vague memory of *hearing* about the Beatles Storm
Over America....I was born in June 1962....YOu actually *saw* that
show?? That is soooo cool!!! :o)

>I'm not familiar with Kate Bush,

You might really enjoy her! Usually people either love her work
or hate it. She has about a 4 octave range, which irritates some
folks. Gilesy purrs when he hears her voice :o) (as we do :o)
She's also a mime, having trained with Marcel Marceau (sp?)
But yes, she's a mommy of a 5(?)-year-old bay?

> I do remember Jim Morrison.   I >also remember his music and the they he "died" (There are those who

!!!!!!!!!  Please tell me *anything and everything* you can
recall???  please email me privately at
cherylfaith@paradiseplace.org.uk if you have the time.
Or post.......if you please...........Yes, I am obsessed!
I didn't know of him when he was Alive. Please......and you remember
the  Day he died? Tell me anything, if you can spare the time. In
exchange, I can get you all sorts of Music (very techy hubby who has
access to all kinds of media)
or how about some British cat treats??

Do you perhaps have any magazines or newspapers...*ANYTHING* at all
from the media, either *during* his LifeTime or shortly after his
*supposed* Death?
Jim Morrison, Poet. :o)

We visited his grave at Pere Lachaise in Paris while I was
heavily preggie in August 2003! I cannot explain the Awe and Oddity of
the Day, lest I sound a bit more insnane than I probably sound
*already* :o(    I would love to believe he decided to drop out of
sight, as he was a Poet, and apparently no longer wanted to be a
public symbol of sex & drunkenness.....& Darkness......I would love to
believe he is Alive somewhere......But I *really* do think he is
Immortal through his Work...................

I'm sure I am sounding increasingly insane, so I think it's time
to try to Sleep, a  precious commodity I experience so little of,
lately.

Thanks alot either way. i would love to hear from you more about
Jim!  & If you have *anything* media-related as I mentioned above, I
would love to see if you might part with it in exchange for something
from Britain, perhaps.....(I *think* you're in my native Land,
America......but perhaps i'm  wrong...if so, sorry!  Or I would
purchase mags. or newspapers from you if you have anything, but it
would have to wait until our house sale clears, because Today I just
about cleared out what  I had left on stress-related purchases.)

Purrs and Thanks & HeartVibes,

Manchild.    I'm not sure how many episodes aired.   Here in the US
I saw a few episodes but it was hard to find (BBC america which was
only on Digital cable.)

Manchild had nothing to do with Rupert Giles.   ASH played a
completely different character.

Unfortunetly I don't, it was before computers.

I just remember hearing about it on the news, also I worked
in radio at the time and many fans always felt that he was
still alive, that he faked his death.

No proof ever surfaced to the contrary but fans continued
to believe he was alive.

Through the miracle of CDS he will live on forever.

I had lots of tapes which have since deteriorated beyond
being useful.   I had phonograph records which have since
worn out.    We had no CDS at the time.

This site had a whole page dedicated to fly your pet. And from what I see it is based on there weight (to include anyting that is in carrier with them)

Purrs that this works out and that your dear kitty makes it to the states.

Hi there :o)

You are a *sweetHeart*!  Thank You!!!  I will look further into
Delta's international policy tomorrow.  First, I'll need to see if any
relative could meet our Gileser. I think *therein* lies much of the
problem. I  don't think anyone will be able to........
But I'm going to check it out.

Meanwhile, interestingly, we have received a slightly lower quote
from a British pet relocator, who has researched and discovered that
Lufthansa would be willing to ship the Gileser with a stopover in
Frankfurt! :o)   The quote is still way high, but it *might* be
lowered.......
But I am worried enough about our kitty making the Journey....I can
just imagine him sitting on that tarmac with a beer stein in one paw,
and a hot dog (frankfurter) in another....

But seriously, do you think he would be alright???

Thanks very very much, sweet person. I *will* look into your link
further tomorrow. Now,, it's late here; I'm tying next to my baby's
crib & he's a light sleeper.....so must go.

>>Purrs that this works out and that your dear kitty makes it to the states.
Just be very careful and ask alot of questions.   Some airlines when
they transport pets put them in the cargo hold where the temperatures
can reach below zero.   Also some airlines won't fly pets after a dog
got loose a while back and chewed through some wires.

I would add a number of pet owners here decline to fly, opting to
drive  to get their pets to the new destination. (Now I realize that
is not an option when you come from England).

Check with other pet owners in England find out what they do.

Thanks for your reply. Gilesy is on the large size for a domestic

I think that he would be fine, when my brother inlaw moved from Germany he was able to ship 2 dogs 3 cats and a feret with no problems. One of the kitties did need a mild sedative though and the airplane staff was wonderful about keeping them warm, giving them some water and a little food as necessary. When they arrived in the states they were as clean as when they left Germany.

Hi :o)

Thanks for your reply!  Was the airline Lufthansa?   If so, this
is wonderful news!!  We are now awaiting a quote from a company who
might be able to help us (Birmingham Airport, England, demands that we
ship Gilesy via a broker.)

We are .....praying for a rate we can afford. I have spoken to
a lovely person Today at a company used very often here.....I await
her response.

Sedatives...we've been advised against them because GilesyCat could
wake up mid-flight and be disoriented. Do you think it *would* be ok?
Gilesy is mostly an indoor cat. When he goes outside, it's only for
short periods of time, and always within a very short distance from
here (like in the back yard! :)

I have now also developed an anxiety that the temperatures could
fall too low for him enroute to NY....frightening.....When your
brother-in-law moved from Germany, where did he land?  I know we fly
up over Greenland and Canada enroute to NY...

Eeek! I am *so* upset over this.....all of us are...But you have
given me *great* hope here, so thank you so very much!

Happy Friday, Happy Weekend, and HeartFelt thanks for sharing!

posting!  I welcome any emails form you, or any further posts.
I am not often online much over the weekend, (especially now with the
move so close) but thanks so much in advance in case you think of
anything else. I am more likely able to read your posts than have time
to reply over the weekend.....but I always try to reply...

    I bet *all*
your kitties are the most beautiful, beloved, well-cared-for,
fabulous kitties in the entire Universe, just like our Gilesy.
