So tonight had been going as usual. I was watching ER, breaking up cat
fights (started, I might add, by licking). :) Then my best friend called me
in hysterics. Her cat, Tobey, has died. He was only 8 years old and I had
known him for most of those years. He was one of the sweetest, most
affectionate cats I have known. The boy had a purr that you could hear from
20 feet away. His fur was so soft and silky and he was utterly gorgeous.
Brilliant emerald green eyes with a steely gray coat. It was my job to go
over and take care of his poor little body which, though strong in life,
apparently wasn't strong enough tonight.
I know this will probably make some of you cry - I'm crying as I type -
but believe me, that's not my intent. I just want everyone to remember that
anything can happen so be sure to give your babies all the love they
deserve. Make sure that you give them as many scritches and tummy rubs and
chin scratches as you possibly can while they're around.
And tell them to remember Tobey and his poor momma and to send them both
love..

Maybe the cat fight started when the cats saw Carter and Abbey in the
building?  They seem to have that effect on others.

Sounds alot like my 19 year old.

You have my sympathy.

I'm so sorry to hear this, and I hope that you can be helpful in bringing
your friend some comfort. How  did Toby die?

We're not sure. It was incredibly sudden, no sickness. We took him into the
vets today for a necropsy and cremation. They think it was most likely a
blood clot.

Sorry to hear that - condolences.
What did he die from?
I had bought our last cat his favourite food - but was never able to give it
to him because he died in a car accident.
NOW is the time to spoil the babies, you're right.

With this in mind I did something for my cats (well at least 2 of them)
that they LOVE.

I made a fire in the fireplace. They have a big comphy cozy "dog bed" in
front of it that they like to strech out on and warm their fur and take
some wonderful cat naps.

So in honor of Tobey, Blues, Rhythm and Harmony and "mormin' their fur"
in front of the fire :-D

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run
and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each
miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body
quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So the results from the necropsy came back and they said he was perfectly
fine except for his heart which was very enlarged. Massive heart attack.
Apparently the only way that it would have been discovered beforehand would
have been with an EKG, and of course that's not a standard unless the animal
presents with any symptoms. :(
