Holly - 13 Jan 2005 18:59 GMT I went home for lunch to find Pheniox not feeling well at all. She was showing all the signs of labor and had some scant bleeding as well. So it was off to the vet we went. Vet checked her over, and said she was a bit dehydrated and that that could have caused the false contractions, gave her some fluids, and told me to start mixing water into her cat food when she comes home tommorrow. They are going to keep her overnight for observation, so far no more contractions and the bleeding was very scant and has stopped. Of course he says she will need to rest as much as possible, so I know she will not enjoy that as she loves to take her evening walk with Sasha. Purrs please that she will hold off having her kittens for at least another 2 weeks at least they will stand a chance then. I am so glad that I went home for lunch today.

Oh Holly, I do hope she and the kittens will be OK. Will be thinking about you both.
If she doesn;t wanna drink water, get a syringe and make her drink it. I have to do this with my Charlie cos he doesn't like to drink water, and now has FLUTD so have to force him to drink it with syringe. I also mix water into his dry food, so use small quantities of food at time(but few extra times a day) cos Charlie will not eat it if it becomes too soggy.
Best wishes Gee
Holly - 17 Jan 2005 15:26 GMT I want to say thanks for the Purrs for Pheniox, The vet could not hold off her labor so she deliver 4 still borns. Pheniox was also spayed at the same time. Pheniox has never been a real water drinker so I always offered lots of kitten milk to her the vet says she was dehydrated thats why she went into labor. I dont think we will ever know, but for the kittens to have been due in 3 weeks they were not very developed. Pheniox has been in a really nasty mood all weekend but that is to be expected. She is on antibiotic for 10 days and will continue her vitamin untill her next checkup in 2 weeks.

Holly, sorry to hear that. :(
Some people in here will no doubt be happy to read that seeing as it means 4 less kittens being bought into the world.

jacquie0 - 17 Jan 2005 18:34 GMT > Thank you yes unfortunaltly many will be happy here. Holly, I am sorry that your Pheonix lost her little ones. I am sure that they would have been adorable. However, if you think about it, everything happens for a reason, and although it hurts to have this happen, it probably happened for the best. I know that you were concerned about Pheonix's hearing problem, and how she would handle having the kittens because of it. I guess you won't have to worry about it now. I am happy that you have her fixed now, and I am sure that she will come around after a few days. Don't forget, she was expecting those little ones too. Again, I am sorry for your loss.
Holly - 17 Jan 2005 18:56 GMT Thank you, The kittens did not look very well developed. So maybe there was an underlying problem. You are right all things do happen for a reason. Many do not relize it I was not happy that she had gotten pregnant, because of her health, I too am glad that she is fixed now. I just be glad when this rotten mood of hers passes. She wants no parts of hugs and scritches right now.

I know you'd have preferred she didn't get pregnant, but she was and the loss is sad, both for her and for you. I'm glad to hear that Pheniox made it through and will recovered completely. It may take a little time for her to get back to normal, but I know you'll give her all the love and support she needs.

Very sorry to hear that, but it's not unusual that first kittens are still born, it's not your fault. Nature generally knows what's right. But you should water down the kitten milk, first a little bit, then more and more until about half and half because milk is more of a nourishment than a drink.

OH NO!!! Such a shame...I am so sorry for your loss Holly. I was really upset to hear this, I can just imagine how upset you were... This is really sad.
Cats only carry babies for 2 months, so 3 weeks is a big chunk of their development, which is why they were still so underdeveloped. Its like a woman delivering in 5-6th month, too early really. Well whatever the reason, its better that it happened this way, before you and Phoenix got emotionally attached to them. Perhaps like someone else here said, there is a purpose in all this, perhaps there will be a cat/kitten needing your help and home more in the future.
Phoenix has lots of hormones to deal with at the moment, and maternal instinct is probably still strong, so this all interlaced with pain and lots of different things happening must be making her confused and edgy. Just give her time, she will recover.
Pls once again, accept my condolences. And pls give Phoenix a scratch from me. Gee
PS: Do you feed her wet and/or dry food? If she is a poor drinker like my Charlie, its probably best to give her more wet food , and dip dry food in water when giving it to her.
Holly - 18 Jan 2005 16:34 GMT Pheniox likes to have her dry and hard food mixed together and I have since started adding more water to it. It is weried she loves to get baths but hates to drink water. Beats me what she is thinking.

Do you feed wet/canned food too?
Strange, when you asked for a name for the new cat I wanted to suggest Isabella, honestly, kind of odd ... How is she doing? Well, you lost the kittens, and she thought that she'd come instead ... good girl!

Holly - 19 Jan 2005 14:59 GMT I just read my previous post and I meant to say she likes her dry and canned food mixed together ( I knew I should have let Pheniox type her own answer). As far as little Isabella goes she is just loving life at our house. I really hope we get to keep her.
