Sorry to disappoint you leo, but, like the tabby cat, a tortoise shell
cat is just the markings/colouring of the cat. It is not a definitive
breed.
Holly, is the cat long or short haired? Do you have a picture of the
"little" one? I went to the binary site that you said that you posted
pictures on, but I won't use the site, as it contains a lot of openings
for spyware and viruses. If you want you can email me personally, and
send me a pic that way. I would have to see Sasha in order to possibly
figure out what her breed would be.

I would love to send you a picture of her but I donot have your email, I would love to know exacctly what she is

She's a tabby. :) Tabbies can have broken stripes, which
look like spots. Play a mental game of 'connect the dots', and if you
get a cat with vertical striping, you have a tabby cat.
Other than that, she's a Domestic Shorthair (DSH), aka
'moggy'. :)

A red (brown, tan), black, and white female cat is a calico. Calicos
can also be tabbies - my Maryweather is a calico tabby:

Ted, she's beautiful!
Is she on the small side? Still youngish? She looks a bit like a rascal, is
she?

She's one of my smallest females, but she is sweet. Her only annoying
habit is sleeping on top of me, but since she's not very heavy (~7
pounds in the summer, maybe a bit more in the winter), I usually don't
notice until I wake up for some other reason. Now, Tigger (~18
pounds) and Fleagor (~15 pounds) are another story: I notice them when
they try it because they crush my chest and interfere with my
breathing (Fleagor's so big that he has trouble staying on top when
I'm on my side).

What a striking cat your Maryweather is! I have never seen such markings
on a calico before. She is indeed unique.

I'd second that. You name the gene, it appears she got it!

Wow, what a cool looking cat! Is she a petite female? And what is
her story? I love to hear the stories.

She is one of my smallest females, but she bulked out this fall,
presumably for the winter, so she isn't so petite any more. The first
part of her story is at
<http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/dandy.mary.1.html> - since
then she's had a pretty quiet life. Recently, she has taken to
sleeping on top of me, but that may also be winter related. Oh, and
she currently has a tiny spot of ringworm on one ear - four of the
cats came down with it at the same time, but hers is by far the
mildest.
My main cat page is at <http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/>.

Great story, thanks. Wonderful cats. Maryweather is the most unusual
looking cat I have ever seen, and she is gorgeous.
