Girls 'stomp kitten then brag about it
13-year-olds facing cruelty charges for act called 'beyond sick ? it's evil
Two girls from New Jersey are facing animal-cruelty charges after allegedly stomping on a kitten before burying it alive up to its neck
"This is beyond sick ? it's evil," Cumberland County SPCA Agent Beverly Greco told the Bridgeton News. "We have reached a new low.
The 13-year-olds from Laurel Lake, N.J., reportedly acquired two kittens Dec. 5, but were told by their father they couldn't keep the animals
"We received information from the local animal-control officer and the school [they attended] that the girls were bragging about what they had done," Greco said. "The girls, who are stepsisters who live separately, reportedly had taken two 8-month-old kittens who had been offered for adoption by their owner.
"They took the kittens to a nearby wooded area, where one of the kittens escaped. The other one was stomped, had a red tank top tied around its neck, and was buried in the dirt with its head sticking out.
Greco said most of the feline's bones had been broken during the onslaught
"Another person found the dead kitten and removed it from the dirt and reburied it," she told the paper. "We exhumed the kitten and did a necropsy on the body, and determined that it had suffocated from the dirt packed around it after the girls buried it.
The names of the girls were being withheld by authorities because of their age, but each have been charged with three counts of animal cruelty and a disorderly persons offense

Could you post the actual link to the article? I find this a little hard to swallow. If the kitten was 8 weeks old I could understand this happening. An 8 month old kitten is usually big enough and strong enough to defend itself in some way. I wonder how badly shredded the girls were?

It's not hard at all for me to imagine that an 8 month old kitten would be defenseless against this type of onslaught. What is almost incomprehensible to me is how some people can be so vile and cruel.

Hubbabubbr - 19 Jan 2005 01:48 GMT A weird but unsurprising fact: Nearly all serial killers displayed this kind of extreme cruelty to animals in childhood. Makes sense, doesn't it? Sadism in ones so young is chilling.
They need to make killing an animal like this a felony, with a looong sentence. In a psych hospital.

i'm wondering who taught these girls to behave this way..... i have a very hard time believing that step sisters who live apart are both purely psychotic. if this really did happen, i doubt they did it without some kind of previous coaching.

Luvskats00 - 03 Jan 2005 09:32 GMT It disgusts me to hear deviant behavior such as this. The fact that the girls were able to dole out such violence towards the cat shows that there is something seriously wrong with them that the law can't repair. I hope they are tried as adults...face jail time (one can hope) and get long-term counselling. I also hope they are hit by a car.

I believe fully in the old russian proverb "grave is the only cure for the hunchback" in cases like this (the 2 slags that is - not the poor cat)
I doubt very much that this sort can be helped, and its too great a risk to the public.

I think they should recognize pets, domesticated pets, as eligible for tax refunds etc...
CHAR WAINSCOTT - 11 Mar 2005 16:32 GMT Maybe not hit by a car, but buried up to their necks in dirt!

These girls are SICK. They need to be removed from their homes immediately. Something is obviously going VERY wrong in their homes. I am sure they are themselves the victims of abuse. They need residential help NOW -- serious, long-term, psychiatric, in-house help. If they don't get it, they will inflict this type of abuse on their own children (and they both will probably be pregnant themselves in a couple of years).

I want to add something. It takes a lot for me to say that these girls should get the help they need. A big part of me thinks they and anyone who abuses animals or people should just be either locked up forever or given the death penalty (not that that is allowable under the law, but it is how I feel). However, since they are so young AND because I believe they must have suffered terribly themselves in their lives, I think they should get treatment. If they do something like this again, they should be locked up forever. That wouldn't happen, of course. Probably nothing will happen to or for them now, either.

They don't need to be roaming the streets.

Whatever happens, it should follow them for the rest of their lives. I wouldn't have a problem with hiring someone who many years ago had a record for PI (public intoxication), vandalism, or even shoplifting as a juvenile, but I would have a problem with hiring someone with an animal cruelty conviction
