Recently, my mom and my neutered male cat started what I call sharpening his
nails on me, which a professional called marking. I would like to know why
our male all of a sudden started this. I don't mind him doing it; it feels
nice, like a massage. BTW, we just acquired an unneutered male cat that was
a stray that we picked up; in fact, all our 3 cats were strays that we
picked up. We have 2 males, one as I said is neutered and one unneutered,
and a female, which is spayed.
Any information is appreciated; thanks in advance.

he's "marking" you as his.. and he just started doing it because of the new
cat.

I was at a wildlife center helping with this tame Lynx. I was rubbing him and
he was purring, then he turned around and marked me with pee. The woman said
that means he likes me. I think your cat is marking you because he wants the
new cat to know that you're his, and because he likes you.

The thing is that I do love the cat that's marking me; however, this started
when my mom & I took in the new, unneutered male, which we'll get neutered
next week.

Cats are territorial animals. Once the new cat moved in, the existing one
has decided to make it very clear to the newby what is his terrotory by
either spraying it, or rubbing his smells on the items. So basically he is
basically telling the other cat to back off of you as you are his territory.
This behiviour is probably only temporary and nothing to worry about. Once
both are settled and smell the same, the territory issue will be reduced and
you will be a "shared property" once again :)
