I have a 3 yr. old male cat who is neutered and then 4 kittens from a
pregnant stray someone dropped off. (momma cat's been spayed now). Buddy
(the 3 yr old) has played and groomed one of the males since kitten was 2
months old (now 4 1/2 months), but lately has started humping him and
holding on (gently) to his neck, just like mating!  Has anyone heard of
this?  The kittens have had two appts. to get spayed & neutered, but eye
infections keep stopping it. With 6 cats, it's hard to keep it from
re-spreading.

Do you think Buddy will stop once Chipper (the kitten) is neutered?  And can
he actually hurt Chipper?  By the way, has anyone had kittens spray or come
in heat before 6 months? I'm gonna try, but neutering 2 & spaying 2, plus
final kitten shots is gonna kill me financially.  Thanks for any help!!!

Yes, one of my cats, neutered at the shelter when he was 12  weeks old,
tries to mount the other neutered male cat, pillows, people's legs,
etc., and humps away. The other male cat, neutered at six months, jumps
on the back of that male cat and the female cat and bites their neck to
subdue them, but I think this is more of an attempt at dominance that
at mating. Their vet said they might always act this way. The female
cat is totally annoyed by both of them.

Enlist the vet's help and ask for some meds. Personally, I've found
that even wiping infected eyes with a moist, clean cloth several times
a day helps a lot.

You never know, but perhaps not.

No. If he wanted to, he would have by now.

They can.

It won't be as expensive as dealing with another litter. Ask your vet
for a payment plan. Most will understand and accomodate.

Good luck!

Thanks so much dd! We have gotten eye meds from vet, but just when we almost
had them clear, drops ran out over the weekend.  The two boys should be well
enough to neuter next week. Then at least the two girls can't get pregnant,
but I can get them spayed one at a time before they reach six months.

I guess I'll just have to put up with Buddy's actions till hopefully Chipper
starts taking up for himself.  Thanks again for all your advice!

here in texas, we have many groups that will do low cost spay/neuter for
almost nothing - free. i had my 3 kats fixed, with 1st year shots, for 25$ a
piece. this included: spay/neuter. bloodwork, FIV detection, fleas,
de-wormed, rabies shot, teeth cleaning and a microchip. of course, this was
at palo alto college where they have a vet tech program. look around, i
realize with xmas just passing $$$ is tight for alot of ppl.

Thanks agent smith for the idea. I'll check into that here in Indiana for
the two females.

f*ck

wish they were that advanced up my way

neuter - $80
spay -   $130

microchiping - $25 or $50 can't remember

etc. (and the shots aren't cheap either)

Wow! Where are you?  Here in Indiana, it's $35.00 neuter, $60.00 spay and
$33.00 for last set of kitten shots & rabies.  And I thought THAT was bad!
That's a crime, most people who would take in more pets, wouldn't be able to
afford it there.

its about the same. im in satx now, and the prices for low cost places are
about the same. the pain meds are a must, and are only an extra 10$ or so.
since i wont have to spay/neuter again, im only paying for annual checkups,
which are 40 a kat, and that includes any shots they might need. some people
are skeptical to go to low cost places, but hey, all my kats are fine :)

Do you all have to pay for a vet visit as well as the cost of whatever
they are in for? What I mean is, if I bring my cat(s) to the vet, I pay
an initial fee of $35.00 (Canadian), plus the cost of their shots,
spay/neuter, medication and so on. For me to spay my cat Swiffer, it is
going to cost me over $300.00 Canadian. When I had Pookey neutered, it
cost me just under $300.00 Canadian. Thank goodness I am a vet
assistant, and I get a discount, or I would never be able to afford the
costs. The discount helps when it comes to their food as well, but even
with it, an 8 killogram bag costs me $43.00.

Yes, my old vet charges 29.00 for just the appt. then extra for what they
need. I had been his office since we had pets as kids, but changed to a vet
farther away, but much more reasonable. The old vet has raised prices on
everything two or three time in last year & tons of people are leaving. How
does Canadian money compare to U.S? Like $300.00 Canadian is what?

By the way, as a major animal lover, my thanks for giving a loving home to
more than one pet when it costs that kind of money - Happy New Year!

Because you asked, $300.00 Canadian equals $250.00 US and $130.00 UK. I
don't know what it is you all pay for your animals to be fixed, but,
when you have more than one animal that requires such operations, it can
get costly. Still, I wouldn't/couldn't live without either one of them.
As a matter of fact, my husband and I are going to the shelter this next
week to look at another cat. We hope to get a cat 6 months or younger,
so that the new guy/gal will be more readily accepted. Besides, it seems
that our shelter has an over abundance of cats/kittens in that age
range. We might even take our two with us to see if they themselves can
pick out their new housemate. I have heard that cats will gravitate to
one particular animal and have no problems when it comes time to bring
the new furbaby home. My luck they will both chose different ones, which
means that I will probably wind up bringing home two more instead of
just the one that I am hoping to bring home. LOL

That's pretty expensive - in central London (not a cheap place!) it cost
me ?90 all in to get my two cat cubs neutered last summer, including some
bland food to feed them afterwards.
