Solid colors ore tigers?

 I remember many years ago someone telling me that all solid color cats were Tiger
striped cats eg; Black with black stripes, white with white stripes, etc. Any truth to
this? I had a solid black male once and could see texture differences in his coat in
sunlight that looked like stripes.

I've had some black cats that were actually very very very dark brown
tabby, but I've also had one that was simply black even in sunlight
