My cat is trying to cough up a hairball, but she is unable to. I don't know if
it's an issue where the hairball has gotten so large in her stomach that she
can't cough it up. Several times over the past week she'll start gagging like
she's going to cough it up, but it never comes up. I've been giving her that
brown hairball medication in the tube, but it doesn't seem to be working. Is
there something else I could give her that would do the job?

Maybe it's not a hairball. I know that sometimes my cats will just start
retching for no apparent reason. Sometimes when they look like they ae
going to "up" a hairball, it is just bile. I'm not sure about hairball
remedies, as I never use them. I don't like giving anything to my
furbabies, that the vet hasn't prescribed, so that way I know that I am
not giving them something that may be harmful to them. Let's face it, we
don't really know what is in those off the shelf remedies. Remember,
this is just my humble opinion.

We had the same issue with Amber and the vet recommended giving the cat 1
centimeter of malt everyday without fail.It has helped a lot

The hairball remedy is oily. It will cause the hairball to pass through the
intestinal tract. She won't cough it up. Sometimes my cat does the gagging
thing and nothing comes up. If dark brown liquid or yellow bubbly liquid comes
up, your cat is sick. Dark brown can be blood or bile, yellow bubbly is mucous,
stoumach acid. Is she vomiting food? Does she have diarrhea? If not, could just
be a hairball that she'll either cough up or pass. I'd also brush her a lot to
get excess hair out. Watch out for static. If you start zapping her with the
brush, use some coat conditioner.

Best I tried:
Hills Science plan Hairball one. I give each cat about 10 peaces a day as a
treat, they love them.It will be enough. You can get Hills at vets.
Give in addition to normal food and malt hairball medicine, till it gets rid
of hairball, then keep cat on it, say 10 peaces 2-3 times a week (or more if
you want), as to prevent more balls forming.
