Does your cat "stink"?

I've had mine since August, and have never had to bathe her during that time
(thank goodness).  She smells better now than the day I brought her home.  It's
nice that cats take care of themselves, but I was wondering if anyone had a cat
that no longer licked themselves, or couldn't smell themselves due to illness
or some other circumstance?

If a cat stops grooming it is a sure sign that s/he is sick
and should go to the vet immediately.

Yes, I took in a stray that smelled bad. I attributed it to God knows what the
poor thing's diet had been, because his teeth were okay and he was otherwise
healthy. He fell over dead at about 8 months old. Upon autopsy, they ffound so
much infection inside, part of his intestines were already necrotic and his
lungs were full of infection. That was the smell.

Unusual smells in Cats should be investigated by a Vet.  Cats can get bad odor
from various infections wether they be microbial or parasitic.  A profesional
health check will be a good investment for you and your kitty.

Good Lord, what a horrible story! How the poor kitty must have
suffered. You were very kind to have taken him in.

In the weeks before we finally put him down my cat Precious had an
odor to him.  Not so much from not cleaning but from infection/decay.
